The Dare County Commission has closed the county to all persons except residents and property owners due to the coronavirus. There are no reported cases in the county, but they want to guard against travelers bringing infection in from elsewhere. Checkpoints have been set up on all roads leading into the county. These checkpoints are active now. They also are not letting people transit the county to get to or from the Currituck portion of the Outer Banks or to or from Ocracoke Island, which is in Hyde County.. There is one access open from the Currituck banks directly to the Currituck mainland. There is also ferry service from Ocracoke to both Swanquarter in mainland Hyde County and to Carteret County. It is uncertain how long the closure will last.
If past hurricane closures are any guide, a timeshare owner with their deed in their possession will probably be allowed through the roadblocks, but this will not help exchangers or renters.
