Confused -- surprised there are Wyndham rooms available for Spring Break

Makes me wonder if Spring Break is a good time to actually visit... Also makes me wonder if there is enough activity to entertain a few 14yo teenagers...

Finally, suggestions on which property to stay at assuming the above two questions are good :)

thanks!

The problem with Spring Break in MB is the weather. Could be nice but most likely cold. Ocean water is nippy. So if you take the beach out of the equation you just a hotel and some nearby restaurants which you could most likely get at home.

We are going to Florida and the weather there can be cool. Its a crap shoot. If you do go make sure you bring your Xbox, Wii and other things to keep them entertained if the weather is not cooperating.

Awesome -- thanks for the info

Have you stayed at any of the Wyndham properties in MB? Any recommendations?

Mike,

There is a lot to see and do there. Water temp is just cold as already mentioned. We have been to Westwinds, Seawatch and Ocean Blvd. With kids I would probably go either OB or Seawatch.

We are going to Seawatch at the end of the month. Does anyone know if the pools are heated?

I like Ocean Boulevard, but having stayed there this past August, I would not suggest staying there for Easter week. I had the opportunitity to book a 3 bedroom at Ocean Boulevard for this Easter week but I opted for Hilton Head, instead. The reason is the weather. Things are not any better in Hilton Head, but the pools at Ocean Boulevard really stink. They are freezing, even in the summer. The pool in tower 4 is okay, but the ocean front pools are in almost complete shade all day long and the three towers create some kind of wind effect by the pool so in additon to there being no sun, it is windy. In the summer, this is okay but in early Spring, I think it will be too cold. Plus, Ocean Boulevard does not do a good job heating their pools.

I've never been to SeaWatch but the pool situation at that resort seems better. Maybe SeaWatch actually heats their pools to a comfortable temp, too.

Ocean Boulvard is nice, lots to walk to from the resort and you can even bike to a lot of things, but the ocean anywhere in the Carolinas will be like ice water and like the other posters mentioned, if it is cold (and probably 60% of the time it is cold and wet), being by the beach is not fun.

I've gone to Hilton Head more than a few times over Easter break and when the weather is good, it is great and it feels like summer. I would immagine Myrtle Beach is just as nice over Easter when the weather is good. Probelem is more times than not I have been to Hilton Head over Easter week when half the week, if not most of the week was mid 50's and rain. Talk about being miserable!

Lots to do in Myrtle Beach beside the beach. Many more things to do than Hilton Head but if you go, prepare yourself for cold weather and count yourself lucky if it is actually warm enough to enjoy the pools. Also, if you go don't take any nice days for granted -- get to the beach and pool, even if you had other plans for that day because chances are pretty good the next day will not be so nice.

Don't count out Westwinds! The pool is smaller but most of it is indoors. As many have noted, pools don't really matter that much this early in the spring anyway.

Westwinds probably represents the best value in an oceanfront resort for spring break anywhere on the Atlantic coast. Take a look at the points chart.

Oh no you are making me a little nervous about our trip to Hilton Head.

We went to HH in July and it was way too hot. We went to HH over Memorial Day, slightly better less crowds. It was tolerable after 4:00 PM and still had 5 hours to enjoy the island in day light. Two years ago we went at Easter and loved it. Only one day didn't reach 70 or 80 degrees. I guess I should come up with a few more indoor activities just in case.

I'm still going for this Easter, despite the cool weather we have experienced. You had MUCH better luck in the weahter department with your Easter trip than we have had, though. Back in 2006, Easter week was nice but two days of the week, it was way to cold for the beach or pool, but the temps reached upper 80's once or twice on that trip, too. The next year, 2007, the weather was downright cold for most of the trip. One or two days, the sun came out but it was still cold and WINDY. I still remember laying flat on the sand because the sun had heated the sand warmer than the air temp but being pelted by sand the entire time from the high winds.

This winter has been warm though, so I am crossing my fingers that Easter week will be warm and sunny this year. I'm optomistic about the weather, despite a few bad years. There is some weather site where you can punch in the days you want to see weather history on and it will tell you how warm it was on that day through the years. If you look up the first and second week of April you will see mixed results. More cooler temps than hot, but lots of nice in between temps.

I wouldn't be discouraged too much about Easter week this year. It's the second week in April and it's been a warm year so far.

There you go letting the secret out about Westwinds being a great resort.

We just returned from Wyndham Sea Watch in Myrtle Beach. I think it was an outstanding resort. We were in a 2 bedroom unit in the North Tower, 14th floor. Our unit had a beautiful side view of the Ocean. The resort is in a good location in North M.B. Very close to Tanger Outlets and many places to eat. The only heated pool they had when we were there was the indoor pool. It was very nice, clean and warm. The outdoor pools and the lazy rivers were not heated. The weather was beautiful in February low and mid 70's. There were a few teens that jumped into the outdoor pool by the North Tower but they only lasted about 2 minutes in the water. They yelled out that it was ice water. ha,ha. The rooms were very nice, bed was comfortable and we had everything needed to cook meals. I would not hesitate to schedule a vacation here again.
