We will be at OceanWatch soon for a January vacation, using our "gift" AC from Interval. It will be our first time there. Any restaurants that we should be sure not to miss?

Absolute must: House of Blues for breakfast (the name is right or close to it).

Don't miss Sea Captain's House.
Try Lady's crab soup, it's very good.
Other menu are good too.

This one's a perennial favorite.... easy to find, easy parking across street.

We also like Landry's at Broadway at the Beach. It is mediocre on rare occasion, but very good most of the time. Personally I've always enjoyed it. Big menu........it's one of the best seafood places while not being a "fine dining" spot, imho. Movie theatre also there, just to mention!

Landry's at Broadway at the Beach:

In addition, if you like an occasional chain restaurant, they're ALL located along North Kings Highway (Hwy 17). note:There are two Hwy 17's....one sort of a bypass (slightly farther north), and one a major drag (North Kings Hwy), which I call "Restaurant Row". It's got most all the restaurants along there somewhere, including the typical chains. Note: Avoid the big mega-Seafood houses----they're awful.

Example (randomly picking TGI Friday's):

Enjoy.....great time to be there!!!! jme (Marty)

Try Greg Normans Resturant in barefoot landing, expensive but good food and wine. Also try Carolina roadhouse for barbecue.

so many...

I second "Greg Norman's" ... and you must go to Rossi's for great Italian food (in the Kroger's plaza just north of OceanWatch) - say hi to Chaz the bartender for us!

in no certain order:

1. Carolina Roadhouse
2. Krispy Kreme (getting "hot" doughnuts is our family beach tradition).
3. Sea Captain's House (I think it's good, but not great)
4. Yes I say a chain-- Bonefish grill near the Marriott
5. Croissants Bistro (I ordered a cake one time to celebrate our anniversary and it was AWESOME!

We've actually had trouble finding great seafood in Myrtle Beach. It's either mass produced for the big buffets, or overpriced table restaurants cooked without any imagination.

I asked the people at the Marriott, "where do the locals eat seafood." They sent us to "Drunken Jacks." I would say it's better than some other places we've tried. We found it expensive (you are in a tourist area).

We happened to be in Myrtle Beach last year at this time. We discovered it was South Carolina Restaurant week. Be sure to check Myrtle Beach and also Murrell's Inlet (near Myrtle Beach). We saved a lot of money!

Tuggers note: Also applies to Hilton Head!

I agree with swice...
The BIG seafood buffets are all the same... the food has no taste, all cooked in the same grease...sitting out for hours... very pricey...
I'm sure you are going to be renting a car...if not you'll need to rent one ...
The best seafood we have found is a few miles south of Myrtle Beach(right off highway #17) in Surfside Beach at a "LOCALS" resturant called Bubba's Fish Shack...you can taste the love they put in the food ...fresh seafood right off the boats...

For a special meal, the restaurant Waterscapes at the Grand Dunes Hotel is magnificent. It ws expensive but worth every penny. (And I think we got a buy one get one coupon at SBP). The food was fresh, inventive and tasty.

Take advantage of www.restaurant.com. Do a Google search for current promo codes and buy your dining certificates for as little as $2 for a $25 cert. We have gotten certificates there and used them successfully at the following Myrtle Beach area restaurants. These places were great dining experiences for us, and the certificates helped us save $$$ in the process.

For German Food - Horst Gasthaus
www.horstgasthaus.com

For American Food - House of Blues
http://www.houseofblues.com/venues/clubvenues/myrtlebeach/

Enjoy your trip. We will be returning to MOW ourselves for this year's Spring Break at the end of March.

The best fresh seafood restaurants in my opinion can be found are located at Murrells Inlet off Hwy. 17 Bus. about 20 -30 minutes from Myrtle Beach.

We liked Bubbas and Drunken Jacks located on the Murrells Inlet.

There is also a small family own Italian Restaurants in old Myrtle Beach called Rossi they served some very fine steaks and Italian food.
