So, my Linksys E2500 dualband router is working fine for a few weeks...then for some strange reason, my new "Smart TV" no longer can connect with Netflix.

With the help of the Cisco techie, I rename my router, open port 443 on the router, and voila' Netflix is working....however....

Now my other devices (laptop, Iphone, Kindle) are not picking up the new name of the router. It is a dualband router....they pick up the original name of the router for "guest" (the 2.4Ghz signal), but not the "owner" signal (the 5 Ghz frequency). **Just inconvenient since I have to type in the "guest password" on these devices EVERYTIME I want to access the internet..ugh!

During the process of renaming, and opening port 443, I did have to type in the SSID of the TV into my computer....maybe that "hid" the router from the other devices?

Any help would be appreciated....thanks! Mark

Don't know that router specifically, but the only way I know of to hide a router is to disable broadcast of the SSID. As long as that's on, and it's a compatible protocol (ie. an 11b-only computer can't see an 11g router), you should at least see it.

After that, you can restrict logon access by enabling MAC filtering, but that's unlikely to be on by default.

If you don't get any answers, usually routers have a master reset button. It will reset everything to default values. Hopefully that would allow your other devices to see the router again. Then you could work thru the process to get your TV to see it.

Routers are so frustrating. And I was waiting for Steve Jobs to fix that and to come out with the iRemote ...:(

I was waiting for the iPrinter that reloads its own paper tray.
But I'll settle for the iHamper that sorts the laundry.

No idea if this will help, but....

I had been having problems with my internet service for several months. The cable company strung new wire to the house (we still have above ground wire), added a dedicated line directly into the house for the modem, added a filter to the line so that only internet comes in. Everything they did seemed to make things better for a week or two and then I would have more down time (usually slow, but sometimes not service at all; I would often power off/on the modem and router, and then usually things would work okay for awhile).

Last time, the cable guy came out and said to use a password that is more than 16 characters long. I reset my router to factor settings, set it back up again, and used a password that is 32 characters long (what the heck, if 16 is good isn't 32 twice as good)? Knock on wood, my internet has been working great (and yes faster) ever since.

Sure hope I don't forget my password :)

embarrassing!

So, after dealing with Cisco techies for hours.... I took Jeff's advice, and hit the "reset" button on the bottom of the router. Put the disc in the computer, and followed the directions on the screen, renamed the router, new password etc....voila', works like a charm!

so, if anyone else is having issues with their router, try pressing the "easy" (reset) button first.

..and the embarrassing part....all along,I thought I had been pressing the "reset" button....come to find out I was pressing the WPS button instead...which of course had no effect. UGH

One time I took a truck to my mechanic and said, "My window's stuck. It won't go down."
He looked at the switches on door and asked, "Did you press this one with the 'X' in the rectangle?"
