My wife wants to go to Oahu for our 25th anniversary next year. (I don’t want to be she is the greatest woman in the world and I try to give her everything she wants) We own at the Marriott Surf Club and already have our two bedroom reserved for next year. We also have a deposit with II that we received as an incentive that we would like to use so we can go for two weeks. We need to go during weeks 4 and 5. I would like to do a request first so that if it did not go through we would still have our week in Aruba. Now for the questions.

Am I doing this the right way?

How likely are we to get the two weeks during the time needed?

Should we request properties other than Marriott?

If so, which ones?

If it is just the two of you and you can live with a 1BR or smaller, you should not have a problem getting Ko'Olina. Make sure that your request is in AT LEAST 12 MONTHS BEFORE the time you want to go. After the first trade comes through, change the search on the second week to before and after the first.

In order to double your chances, be willing to give up a day (or two). For instance, if the first week checks in on Saturday, be willing to accept a Sunday check-in the week before or a Friday check-in the week after.

Requesting other properties than Marriott will cost you more, and may not measure up.

Two weeks in a row may be very hard to get at the same resort .. if you opened your request a little, say 1 week in Kauai and 1 week in Maui, you should have a better chance.

Anniversary in Hawaii is delightful. Go for it. Request first will give you the option of staying where you have booked and I would do that if II isn't giving your deposits an AC bonus week. I sent two of my daughters on their honeymoons there (Kauai) on points in the hotel part -- they just loved it.

Spend your second week in Kauai either Marriott, but Waiohai is my favorite, more resort feel, less huge hotel like the Kauai Beach Club or whatever it's called. If it's taken 25 years to get to Hawaii, don't miss Kauai. my 2 cents.
