Hello,

I am new to the timeshare user group and would like some help/guidance to buy a resale timeshare or just points. I currently have a 3 yr point sampler from RCI that I purchased from vegas, but it is not tied to a home resort. I have enjoyed them and I like them. Looking to purchase an actual timeshare or points to use every year. In advance, thank you.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where? No. My motto is to travel to one destination only once. If is beyond expectations, I might consider revisiting a second time.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Trade more than half of the time.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself? The majority of the time it is 4, 2 adults and 2 children. If points allow then I would rent 2 units to take my family of 9, but that would be on blue-moon occasions.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? I have 2 boys in school but do not necessarily stick to school schedule as it tends to be extremely busy and too expensive.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? Yes.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 3.5

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? 2000

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? 1500-2000

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? Yes

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? Yes

Welcome, J:
What part of the country do you live in?
For west coast residents, I always recommend a look at WorldMark. It is pure points, no home resort. Earliest you can make a reservation is 13 months in advance (to the day).

I am a Worldmark owner because of the West Coast availability and options. Figure no matter how limited traveling gets for us, will be able to the ones on this Coast. However, with those points we have traveled Hawaii, the East Coast and Canada. We love them and resale will get you what you need.

Hi @Jsanchez0989, welcome to TUG.

If you are interested in exchanging and trading your timeshare rather than staying in the same resort every year, you could purchase into a Points-based timeshare system. This will allow you the option of visiting the different resorts within the timeshare system. One example would be WorldMark, mentioned above.

Another option is to purchase a timeshare that you can enroll in an exchange company that has places you want to visit throughout the world. This can be Points based or weeks based. Two examples of exchange companies are RCI and Interval International (II).

When I purchased my first resale timeshare I purchased where I wanted to travel year after year. If I don’t want to go to the beach one year I can make an exchange or trade with RCI or II, or I can rent my unit out (if your resort allows this). My latest resale timeshare purchase was an RCI Points based timeshare, which gives me a rather large chunk of points to use as I wish at any resort available within the exchange system.

Interval International (II) Resort Directory

With your budget, I would suggest searching the listings on TUG, ebay, Redweek, MyResortNetwork.

Another good source for resale timeshares is found at the Licensed Timeshare Resale Brokers Association (LTRBA) website. They have a member directory on their website, with links to resale listings. Legit brokers should never ask you for an upfront fee.

Look into vistana villages 2 bedroom platinum, comes with 81K star options. You can book two bedrooms in many places. Even a one bedroom at 81K would work for 4 people. Plus it trades very well in Interval giving you priority and preference when exchanging into Westin’s, Sheratons, and Marriott’s.

Another option is Grandview Las Vegas 2 bedroom worth 122K points or the coveted Regal Vista at Massanutten 178K points. (Both are RCI points ownerships ) you can get a lot of use with that amount of points.

Next up, look into Wyndham points,
