So I just rescinded my timeshare on Maui. I like the idea of a TS as we like to travel quite a bit but thanks to this site avoided way overpaying at the resort. So now I need to figure out the best option for me.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?

We like tropical destinations as we are avid scuba divers but would prefer to see and explore new places

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?

Trade most often as we are always looking to go explore new places.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?

South Pacific, carribean, hawaii, Florida, Europe or Australia I guess.

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?
Usually just me and my wife but would like to take our 2 teenagers sometimes.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Usually travel fall and winter.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
4-5

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
$15k
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
$3k

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Somewhat (too ambiguous?)

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes

I don't have a recommendation for a timeshare company, but I can tell you that there is lot of trading potential in the Caribbean, Florida and Hawaii. The South Pacific, Europe and Australia are much tougher destinations.

Kinda threw a hail mary on those last 2. Just seeing what sort of responses I’d get.

Honestly.... so many better options in the South Pacific than timeshares. Vistana has great Caribbean timeshare choices using star options. I am partial to vistana since I like the Caribbean and to me, they have the best destinations.

You could buy a Westin kierland villas and get 148K star options. Then book all vistana resorts at 8months.

Marriott destination points are an option as well, but I’m not crazy about Aruba surf club.
