Why would Starwood transfer a reservation from the former owners' guest to my account, and then not take it off of my account, when I call to let them know?

I was thinking of cancelling it. :D Just joking.

The PCC apparently rented this year's week to make a little cash. I think Starwood makes it hard enough to keep track of what I am doing with my weeks each year, and here I have a reservation under my account.

I am worried they are going to say, "You used that week for a guest...." and attach it to another week I have. They could do that and argue to the death over it. I want them to send an email saying it is not my reservation, and what week was used, and that I don't owe fees for this week.

Im confused...In your first paragraph you say you called to have this taken off your account...but in the second paragraph you say you are thinking about canceling it..just joking

Dont these two things (taking it off your account and canceling it) amount to the same thing...Someone that paid for a week at a resort doesnt get it

This seems like a simple matter to me...If your agreement with the seller says its your week, then cancel...if your agreement says it belongs to the seller, than dont...in either case it seems to me that your communication should be with the seller, not the resort.

Am I missing something??

You misunderstand. The former owner (probably the PCC) made a reservation for 2011, still coming up in the near future. I don't get use of 2011. Why is it showing in my account?

So I call Starwood and tell them this week is IN MY account, and they say, "It will disappear in a few weeks, when the reservation is over."

It would be in my power, I think, to cancel it, since it shows in my account.

It's bizarre. Never happened before. So I thought it was something Starwood should take out of my account. I tell you, I can cancel it. I can just call and say, "That guest is not using the week after all."

When I got my SBP two bedroom this year, the seller had already rented out Labor Day week. I saw it in my MSC account in the guest's name until their reservation started and then it went away. I just ignored it.....

The reservation was made using Staroptions too. So I wonder why I cannot have Staroptions.

It's in your account because it's a reservation using your interval ownership. If you cancel you are breaking your agreement with the seller, where you relinquished 2011 use of the week.

No kidding. I just think a less trustworthy person could cause real problems with the reservation. I think it is UNwise to have a reservation sitting there in someone else's account. It would be easy to cancel it accidentally, if you owned 11 weeks, which I do.

Really no different than someone renting their VOI out - and then canceling the reservation and keeping the money - it is all about trust - not sure how/why SVO/SVN would get involved - even to the level of them trying to figure out how not to let it show up in the current owners' MSC account - or any other of the many variations that could occur.

Heck, someone could easily find out an Owners info (name, address, phone, email, ownership weeks) and call Owner Services and totally screw with the reservations. Because of this I tried to get a security password when calling in - was successful for a while, but they no longer have it in their records (they had to add it to the 2nd street address line...) - their reservation system and database is just sad.

I just purchased a resale unit and have the same issue. I was also told that at some point in the near future they would de-link my ownership from the prior ownership. I guess they go by the contract number, so my account doesn't start out fresh with the transfer in of the StarOptions that I have available. Interesting system. This wasn't an issue when we bought our Marriott resale. However, it sounds normal for Starwood, so we will just go with the flow and see what happens. We already have our reservation for 2012, so no StarOptions remain for us.

They should give each contract a new number upon resale. It's not like they ever accidentally think of you as a retail buyer, so there is no benefit to keeping old contract numbers for the resale buyer.

Starwood has to be SHOCKED at the prices on eBay. I bought this one for $299 with closing included.

You might not be able to cancel it. I bought a week in Aug. that included 2011 usage. The prior owner had already made a reservation for a December week. Once closing was completed, my plan was to either change the dates or deposit with Interval. Starwood did transfer the ownership to me fairly quickly, but beginning with 2012. The reservation did show in my MSC account, so I called to change the name/dates. They said they would need to get permission from the prior owner before this could be done. Either the closing company didn't make clear to Starwood that the reservation was to transfer to me, or Starwood can't make that transfer on an existing reservation.

In any case, after a few phone calls from the closing company (they were very helpful), the 2011 reservation was finally transferred to me.

While it was a bit of an extra hassle, I guess it's better than the old owner losing their existing reservation if it was NOT part of the sale.

When we bought our various SVR units, they all came with reservations for the current/next year from the previous owners. Since we had immediate use, we just went ahead and cancelled them without any issues, so I don't think it's necessarily a Starwood problem...

Mjm1 bought a week from us, and when the ownership transferred to him, for some reason he can see in his account ALL of our Starwood reservations, including those from weeks that belong to us. The resolutions department promised to fix this by de-linking the accounts and reservations, but they never did. I am glad my buyer is an honest tugger, but this type of situation is not normal - it's even a privacy issue - why would the buyer be allowed to see all of our reservations that belong to us? SVN needs to improve their process of separating ownerships and reservations when transferring weeks from seller to buyer.

As Ada903 mentioned we bought our unit from them and I feel very comfortable with this current situation. A funny thing happened yesterday. I received a very nice welcome call from Kierland Villas saying they are looking forward to us checking in today. I told the woman that I just bought the unit, so the reservation was actually for the prior owner. In fact, the reservation was in their name. At any rate, she was very courteous and apologized for the confusion. I will say that the few people with Starwood that I have talked to over the past few weeks have been very nice.

Actually, there is ONE benefit. When I traded in a unit that I bought resale (to buy a developer unit), they looked up the sales price in the original contract and gave me that amount towards my purchase price.
