This afternoon I was out for a leisurely walk with my 9 lb Silky Terrier and all of a sudden I see a dog running full speed toward us. Before I could react, I realized it was a Pitbull and it went straight for my dog. He bit her once, I was literally swinging my dog on the leash trying to get the other dog off of her, I finally managed to pick my dog up, I was screaming "NO" at the top of my lungs but it kept attacking my dog while it was in my arms. I was running and yelling help for a 1/2 block while it continued to attack us. Finally, two girls came running and were able to distract the dog and we got away.

Thank god, I only has some minor scratches, to tell you the truth I cannot believe with all the attacks I didn't get bit...but my dog got it pretty good. She was bleeding like crazy and we were able to compress the wounds and rushed her to the Vet. They think she will be OK, she had her leg ripped open and she has a puncture wound close to her jugular vein so they need to watch her very closely with other bites all over her body....but they still think she will be OK.

I know this is minor in the scheme of life but she is such a big part of our family...I know you dog people understand.

I know she would appreciate some good karma coming her way...so anyone reading this...send her some positive thoughts....

PS: I have now decided that MJK weekend is not good for me, two years ago, I was carjacked the same weekend...please remind me next year not to leave my house!!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. What a horrible experience. I am glad that you are okay, and certainly hope that your dog will be as well. It's definitely not minor. (Not getting the view you want with a timeshare exchange is minor.) Having a member of your family brutally attacked is devastating. Please take care, and let us know how your dog is doing.

That is horrifying. I hope your little dog has a full recovery.

Do you know who owns that pitbull? It sounds like it is a very dangerous dog and the authorities should handle the situation.

I second what Sue says. You really need to turn this dangerous animal in to authorities. The owner should be held responsible for your vet bill at the minimum.

Not minor at all! Being attacked by a dog is extremely serious and scary as hell! I'm glad your dog is on the mend. I'm sure you are both pretty shook up.

Terrible! I hope for a full, speedy recovery for your little dog and for you.

Were you able to contact the police or animal control?

I hope your dog has a speedy and full recovery also. Seems like it's always Pitbulls involved in these type of attacks.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience! I was bitten by a dog when I was around 6 years old and the scar remains on my calf. I have never forgotten the experience, and I remain nervous around strange dogs to this day even when the owner is right there. Your description sounds horrifying to me! I hope your dog will recover fully and will definitely send positive thoughts your way.

You are very very lucky you were not injured as well. Owners are usually bitten trying to save their pets but I think we all would do the same. I truly hope your baby will be ok. Kelli always carries mace when she walks the dogs just in case. We always worried about mean people but I guess it could be used on mean dogs as well. Hugs Shaggy

I am so sorry to hear that! I pray that you have a full recovery, as well as your dog. Definately find out who the owner is and contact the authorities so no one else will get hurt by this dog. Also, the way you feel about MLK weekend, my aunt feels about Florida...each of the 3 times she has gone some major mishap has happened, and she refuses to go back no matter what  so I understand. However, I say don't live in fear, bad things happen, we just have to dust ourselves off and fight the good fight of life the next time.

Do you know what happened after? Are the 2 girls OK? Do you know them and could they be the owners?
Call authorities, get that dog off the street. Who knows who could be next!

That is horrible. I hope your pup is ok. And they wonder why pit bulls are so hated.

So sorry to hear about your pup. I am glad you are ok though. Please report the incident to the Animal Shelter. My son was attacked a few years ago. After we reported it we found out about the 3 strikes rule and this was his 3rd strike so the dog was ordered to be put down. It was a very scary ordeal to go through as I bet yours was too.

I am so sorry! That is simply terrifying! Glad it seems your wee one will be ok, but surely she is also traumatized. Sending cyber tummy rubs to ease the fear.

DEFINITELY make some calls. This should not be allowed to happen to anyone, anywhere. If the dog was running free once, it could get free again. Frightening.

I do hope the girls are ok also. Bless them for coming to your aid. Please do get yourself mace or stun gun or something. You should not be afraid to walk your dog in your own neighborhood.

Glad you're all right and your furbaby is expected to recover. Do report it. Next time it could be a child with no one there to come to the rescue.

It's the owners of aggressive pit bulls that should be get the bad rap... not the dogs. JMHO

I hope Malibu and the dog are recovering well!

While I agree it's an owner issue also, I don't think one can exclude the issues with that breed of dog.

Since owners are people, and all people make mistakes (like accidentally having the dog get loose) -- those mistakes can be way too dangerous with a pit bull. IMO, also. :D

I know just as many pitbulls who are loving pets...as those reported to be monsters in the news.

Fault lies 100% with the owners in these situations. (of the pit...not you)

there should be far more penalties for being a bad dog owner. I certainly hope your pup recovers soon!

Good News!!

Thank you TUGGERS for all the well wishes.

I just retuned from the Animal Hospital to visit with Muffin and she is doing great..she has a beautiful pink bandage wrapped all around her, she is being given pain meds, fluids and antibiotics but she is expected to make a full recovery :whoopie:

I was almost positive I knew where the dog lived and drove over yesterday afternoon. The owner knew what had happened, I guess the girls knew who owned the dog and returned him...they girls were OK. Apparently, she said a worker left the gate open and the dog ran out...funny thing, the gate has a note on it, Please keep gate closed...Dogs!!

It ends up, she goes to the same Vet and had already called and arranged to pay the bill...she was very apologetic and seemed as upset as I was if that makes things better.

After the fact, as my adreiline wore off, I realized I was hurting, no bite but I pulled a muscle in my thigh, probably from running and spinning around to get away. I was told at the Animal Hospital that since I was not bit, only the dog, and we know the dog doesn't have rabies, there is not much Animal Control will do. I will follow up with them this week.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts....:D
