Been a few decades since I got paired with my college roommate (basicly my ONLY college roommate who lasted longer than 6 weeks). Was a Tolerate/tolerate relationship. I was not the "fancy" or "flashy" or BFF 24/7 she must have envisioned ... I was 18, grew up 1200 miles away, was experienced at NOT living at home nor being pampered by all. Actually, she always moved out of my room before Christmas twice and Holloween the third year (a 4th year neither of us attended college there - junior year abroad for her & I went to my junior year program 1000 miles away).
7+ plus years ago, we got befriended on Facebook. Not exactly a chatty Cathy or BFF or PM type relationship ...pretty much our total relationship and contact for all these DECADES. As FB friends who don't FB anything ...
But today I ZAPPED her via Facebook. Very nice and considerate ZAP.
I was trolling for all things in Florida and ran across a High School yearbook for her HS and her year ... at almost $50 it was NOT being brought by me ... but I read the ad. Get this: the vendor selling it has a Heart of GOLD and offered FOR FREE to scan a person's photo and email it back. Yes, FOR FREE! Email my request and less than 15 minutes, I have her senior year yearbook photo. Very nice picture of her at 17 (didn't we all look pretty and cute at 17?)
So I post it on my Facebook page, saying what amazing stuff that can be brought on eBay and "did the tag thing". 10 minutes later, she is messaging me and just STUNNED I had acquired her HS Yearbook photo. Then her FB friends are LIKE'ing my picture. She posts on her FB page, that somewhere her college roommate had gotten her HS yearbook photo. And then, she makes the photo HER PROFILE picture. I do have to admit, the B&W photo looks WAY better than her other photos .... but I also am thinking ... wow, I am "her" college roommate even though the Dean of Women took bets on how long we would stay as roommates every year.
So ... I enjoyed my day. Remembering too, college was a great time ... even though we were never BFFs (like she had hoped for, I think). We had spent almost 4 years of our lives in a "relationship".
As for other "incidents" we shared ... like the 2 classes we took together - sophomore 1st semester of Behavior Modification and a freshman 2nd semester class of the Literature by Black American Authors (11 books by Black Americans - we only brought 1 copy and shared).
The life lessons we learned in college ...... I must give her nightmares... :ignore:
