MVC Waikiki: new availability

Yesterday, MVC released a bunch of additional inventory at the soon-to-open Marriott Vacation Club Waikiki, beginning in late October. I was able to book a reservation (for a few days tacked onto the end of our Thanksgiving week in Maui) I'd earlier been unable to book with Club Points.

My theory is that they had held back some inventory in case the project got behind and they didn't have all of the rooms ready to rent at opening. The new inventory release would imply that the final bits of construction and furnishing the rooms is on schedule and that they are comfortable taking more reservations than they were previously.

The property is slated to open in October, I believe check-ins begin on October 4.

So if you've been looking for a 2024 reservation there, it's time to check again, as new inventory has been released.

That is possible, and in fact I cancelled a cash booking and rebooked with Club Points now that I was able to do so.

It is possible, but deposits won't be plentiful. Has it even been added to the II directory yet?

The other points only properties do show up in Interval- put availability is pretty limited and never in prime seasons from what I have seen.

NYC in Jan/Feb and South Beach late Aug-Oct for example.

It has not be added to the Interval Directory. I check periodically so I can add it to my search code list once its added.

It wasn’t a conversion, it’s a new build. It was previously a shopping center but they gutted it and added four or five floors to what was there. I think the parking garage on the lower floors is the only thing that really remains from its previous life, everything above that is new.

At one point it was a very large Niketown. At another point is was a large Duty Free Shopping location.

Original tenant ona the street level was a Local Motion Surf shop. At least one person worked there when filming the eighth season of MTV Real Word in 1999. Building was built in 1997.

Prior to the shopping center, this was the beautiful art deco Kuhio Theater, operated by Consolidated Theaters for much of its life. It opened in 1945 and closed in 1996 after it was sold to be demolished for the Nikerown. I saw many films there in the 80s and 90s. It is a shame that it was torn down for a shopping center that didn’t even last for twenty years.
