MVC reps are really pushing their travel insurance policy this year.

Good morning!

In the past 24 hours, I've had two occasions to call the MVC number and talk to a rep.They each went out of their way to sell me a 2016 travel insurance policy.

700 vacation points or $169 for a year of coverage, including all MVC reservations, related airfares, and etc. for all travelers. I don't normally buy this kind of thing, but with my dad's poor health, I decided to give it a try.

Oh, also, from TUG, I am aware that I have 21 days to rescind the purchase.

Any opinions?

We bought it for 2016...

And have used it (similar packages) in the past. We used it when traveling (unable to return home) during hurricane season a few years ago. I thought I was going to have to use it when I had to have an emergency appendectomy 2 days before a trip last August (but went anyhow ).

I have an elderly mother and we travel 2-3 different times of the year for 1-2 weeks at a time so at this point in time, it makes sense for us to take the insurance...

Big Fan of the Travel Insurance

This last year we had a big trip plan to Hawaii with my wife and Son and daughter in law. My wife and I actually made to Maui as we landed, had a call my daughter in law was in hospital 6 months pregnant and having major problems (thank God everything end up well and now have a healthy grandson).

We had to turn around and fly to them. Canceling everything and having to make new flights back (some major $$ for this). The $199 fee for insurance was a smart investment, since they came thru and reimbursed us for everything, even my unused TS at MOC and KL and additional flights to my sons city where they were. My son and daughter in law flights were covered too.

They were great to work with. The only thing, I had to have receipts for everything and I created a spreadsheet showing the value of the TS units if rented along with a justification for each charge I was looking for their reimbursement and of course letters from Doctors.

We have a couple big trips a year and I will get yearly Insurance, small investment for peace of mind. I think I remember they will cover up to 10 people in your party...

I think they said it's a dozen people now. It looks like it's necessary, or at least safest, to name each individual on the MVC list of guests.

I noticed it also includes rental car damage up to $35,000, which is another plus, though I guess I also get it from the credit card company.

I live outside the United States, even though I am a US citizen. My timeshare ownership is listed under my foreign address. When I tried to sign up for the travel insurance policy through Marriott's European office I was told that the policy is not available for owners who live outside the US (or outside the US and Canada - I can't remember).

Has any "foreign owner" purchased the policy, or has everyone received the same response?

I was never told one way or the other but I did make the purchase within a day of paying the maintenance fees.

Does it only cover Marriott vacations? Exchanges? Other timeshare trips?
