Considering purchasing a gold week at NCV. How easy/successful will I be if I want to trade/exchange for other MVC properties? Thanks

It should be a very good trader. However, if you plan to use the week primarily for trading, you might be better served by buying at a resort with lock-offs.

We would plan to use NCV over 50% of the time. Would eventually like to see Hilton Head, Hawaii, Aruba, other exotic locales. Wondering if I should consider spending more for platinum season at NCV in order to have better chances for Jan-April trades for those other type of destination. We rarely travel with more than 2 of us so trading the 2 bdrm for a 1 bedroom in the more exotic locations would be OK. Thoughts anyone?
Thanks

I think you should buy in the season you would most prefer to be at NCV.

Broker is suggesting buying NCV Gold (vs Platinum if summer months aren't needed) and trading for fall NCV usage (Sept-Nov) if/when we don't want to use spring (Gold weeks). This approach saves $4000-$5000 on the purchase. Anyone have experience trading NCV Gold for a NCV Sept-Nov week. Don't need June-Aug but would like to have option to use NCV Mar-May or Sept-Nov. Thanks

I've had good luck trading a 1 BR Marriott Desert Springs for Sept-Nov. There are fewer Sept units (at least for me) but Oct and November are more plentiful. So, given that you would be depositing a 2 BR, you'll see more inventory than I do and I don't think that you would have much of a problem. Your highest probability of getting your exchange is to reserve the highest demand week that you can and then request a week that is comparible (or lower) in demand.

I know my Aruba studio regularly sees November and sometimes earlier Fall NCV weeks. Since you seemt or have a lot of flexibility, aren't looking for prime weeks, and don't need a 2BR, you really should consider buying a lock-off unit elsewhere.
Ultimately, you might decide to just buy NCV because you want to go there more than half the time, but at least consider other options. That said, since you'd be offering a 2BR, if you reserve a good week even in Gold season you should be able to trade I to 1BR's in high demand locations, since size is a biggie in II, especially if you have flexibility with dates.

I agree with others. I wouldn't buy gold to just trade in to fall Platinum season. If you plan to do that, just buy a lock off. Even if you had to use the 1BR to get the week you want, you still have a studio left over to trade with. I don't follow NCV that much for trading, but it seems to be a rather easy trade with less than a 2BR unit in shoulder and off season.

Another thing, you can probably pick up a lock off 2BR platinum unit somewhere for the same as you would pay for the gold NCV and the MFs would be the same if not a little less. I would look in to Willow Ridge, Grande Vista, Harbour Lake, or any of the Palm Desert properties.

I have a gold NCV. We used it annually and started trading about 5 years ago to other Marriott properties. I always book Memorial weekend and then deposit and trade to Hawaii for spring break. Never had any trading problems. UNTIL....this year. I have always received a confirmation by now.
I am trading a NCV 2bd, high demand, for a 1 bd, mid level demand week. Again, never a problem. Getting worried and wondering if our luck with II and trading has ran out. We love NCV, so we don't mind just going back to stay at our home resort again, but it was nice to try other places. After all, isn't that supposed to be one of the perks?
We didn't buy points because it was not worth the extra cost and what they were going to give us in points. Plus, we never had a trading problem. Until now. I am waiting, but getting nervous, because if it doesn't come through soon, we would be out of luck to book flights for a good price.
