We usually book Thanksgiving week for our silver seasom Mountainside. This year (for the first time) there were no Thanksgiving dates open, so I booked the week after Thanksgiving, Nov.23-30, 2012, as that last week of silver would have the greatest chance of snow. It however, is the very lowest II exchange value, but in the DC chart is offered for 4450 points, quite a bit more than the 1225 points we'd get if we ever chose to exchange for points. (We won't!)

So I am wondering if this is a rare occurance, or does Marriott regularly charge that much more in DC points for a week just prior to a higher value season in other resorts?

Depending on our plans for the rest of the year, we either use it or lock off and exchange through II. Thanksgiving week at Mountainside is pretty low on the II index, but it has always
given us excellent exchanges. However, the week after Thanksgiving is as low as you can go on II index, but Marriott DC points are much, much higher for that one silver week. So which rating do we believe?

Use the II TDI to determine the best week to book for trade value.

Actually, the short version of that long post comes down to "why would Marriott single out that one week out of Silver season for almost 4 times the points charged for the rest of Mountainside silver? (especially when II gives it the lowest TDI)

After a very brief look at other resorts, it appears that Marriott has singled out that Nov.23 2012 week in the points chart along with other holiday periods (such as Presidents weekend) perhaps because it falls at the END of Thanksgiving week. So perhaps they assume people will book an extra week after Thanksgiving to extend the ski trip.

At both Hawaiian and Park City resorts, Marriott charges more points ( from 2000 to more than 3000) for that 2012 silver week, but in the Caribbean resorts it is not separated out. Haven't checked all resorts on the DC points chart, so that theory could be totally off. Just curious as to why Marriott asks so many more DC points for a "lowly" silver week.
