I was looking into booking a Ski area for Spring Break next year (I have Wyndham points) and was looking at Bentley Brook or Smuggs

But when I checked RCI, I actually saw Mountain run @ Boyne (Michigan) available for my dates. This is great because it's only a 6-7 hour drive from us vs 14 hours.

I put it on hold for now -- but I was thinking of confirming it. Any thoughts on this resort?

I have written a couple of reviews on this resort, the last was Sept 2014. You could read those. When exactly is the week you are thinking of skiing? Sometimes snow there is not really reliable.

I like that resort enough to want to buy there. I have to get rid of a few TSs before I approach my wife asking for the funds though.

Snow up there is not reliable as mentioned. It's hardly in a mountain range like the others you mention.

I like it in the summer when I can use the Deer Lake for swimming and boating as well as enjoying the nearby big lake attractions. By big lake I mean Lake Michigan.

Petoskey is close and Traverse City is not too far but again, summer is best for me in those areas.

I am looking at the last week of March which is our Spring Break. Snow on that date is hit/miss anyway depending on the season.

Skiing would be nice, but if there is no snow, it looks like a good base for day trips to the Upper Peninsula (McKinac , Traverse City, St. Ignace?

As long as there's enough things to do with the kids, I think we're ok. Getting Midwest trades during summer seems tough it seems

Thoughts?

Snow DEFINITELY not reliable the last week in March! Plenty to do in area, Traverse City and Petoskey have lots to offer if snow is lacking. Indoor water park at Boyne is always an option.

Great! We'll count snow as an extra bonus :) Otherwise, we will just explore the area! We've always wanted to explore upper peninsula but availability of Summer Timeshares are little to non-existent.

UP is about an hour away if driving is decent. We also love theCharlevoix area to the southwest of Boyne.

We went skiing there the last week of Feb this past year, which was quite seriously cold but beautiful. We had a 3 bd ski in/ski out and Loved It.

Resort arcade is very very small.

Water park is a great standby. Understand you won't be walking to anything from this resort, but the shuttle will take you (free) to the lodge, and I think water park is adjacent. Lodge area has shopping and restaurants.

We even drove to the pools and hot tub. A little hike up the hill but not bad for younger folks.

There is a face book group "Bluegreen Owners Buy and Sell" and a couple others where you can find BG owners renting out stays if you're interested in this resort in the summer. I'm just now trying to get a week or so set up myself.

We have rented the first week of Sept for maybe 3 years now. Usually wonderful weather and quite inexpensive if you can find someone with points about to expire.

we were just a few doors down, even at -40 wind chill with lots of snow it was walkable. For Us. I could completely understand the impossibility for others that don't get that kind of weather.

I had to go back and change my post to pools after reading your post.

I confirmed my hold so we will be at Boyne next year at Spring Break!

I will start compiling things to do and places to go while we're there :) the water park and McKinac Island is a definite - planning the rest.

I got a 2BR for 126k points. The total is about $128/day in MFs including the $209. I tried to see if I can book but there was no availability showing on the by rental site so I took the exchange.

I have been to Boyne Mountain twice. January and February. Tons of snow in February, should be good in march. I believe mackinaw island is closed in winter, if not, not much to do. Mackinaw city open but besides some shopping everything closed. Love Boyne! Great little resort and heated outdoor pool and whirlpool. Water park lots of fun. Hope you have fun!

I was just up there a month ago.

The resort is going through the renovation and the renovated units are very nice. (We asked for one). Hopefully by next March all the units should be renovated. The unit colors are very similar to Disney Saratoga Springs.

Yes, March is hit or miss on the snow.

Boyne Falls and Traverse City area - spring break

As an original owner at both Boyne and TC since the 70's I can say that yes summers are next to impossible to get units and winters, though more available, are indeed still busy, bustling and energetic times of the year - lots to see and do depending upon what you are in to.

Besides Boyne Mountain you can also drive to Boyne Highlands or Nubs Nob (both located minutes apart) which are outside of Petosky / Harbor springs - the drive could be 45-60 minutes depending upon road conditions, or quicker.

The water park at the mountain will keep kids busy on the non-ski days, when the parents don't want to drive anyplace either ;-)

Traverse city is the BIG city 'Up North' and might also make for a nice day off skiing. I find it enjoyable to explore an area I trade into so that I know what else is around and typically I will go back to the same area on another trip.

If you want specifics about Boyne or similar, private message me. While there walk over to the "Hemlock: chalets on the other side of the water park - my unit is there. A much more kid / family friendly / community vibe, should you ever be interested in purchasing, my unit is for sale too.
