Final stats for the 2010 year (jan 1 2010 to dec 31 2010)

$3,000,000 in COMPLETED listings in the marketplace.

of this roughly $2,000,000 were for completed resales, and the other million was for rentals.

no fictional numbers or "mildly misleading" statements that have little to do with actual sales or rentals, these numbers come ONLY from ads that users have specifically marked as sold or rented on TUG.

A job well done

That's impressive ! Thanks for all of your hard work.

And here's wishing everyone a great year of travels, once you have stayed at a timeshare resort, you won't want to stay in a hotel room ever again.

What I find most revealing is that the US West (meaning, primarily, California) and Florida are at the top of the list for TS for Sale. No coincidence that Florida and California rank #1 and #2 in the country for bank foreclosures on subprime mortgages. I wonder how many timeshares were purchased in the first half of this decade from home equity loans on those homes purchased with subprime loans.

Thanks for your research!

True, but don't CA and FL also have most timeshares? Someone suggested above that mapping the sales figures to the total availability by region may paint a different picture.
It's interesting though to know the resorts that sell most. I am in particular intrigued by all the Marriott. Aren't thee in high demand?

I'm not surprised about Sheraton Vistana - they recently had a huge special assessment announced.

What special assessment? We own at SVR and didn't get a special assessment.

Maybe I'm slow today, but I don't fully understand the list. For example, the most TS sold, does that mean people are dumping them, or there's a demand so sales are high? Same for rentals. Do they rent because of popularity and people see the value in doing that (which I assume is the case) of because owner's don't want to stay there. For example, Royal Sands, which I didn't know about until this post, looks like a superb place, why would you want to rent it? or is it because it is sooo easy to do so.

I've never rented and a bit skittish on doing so. Would renting Royal Sands or equivalent be a better value than booking directly with this all inclusive? Thanks for your patience.

Great question!

Im not sure folks ever sell a timeshare because resale demand for that particular timeshare is high so to speak...however anything is possible!

the royal sands has been a top renter for many years because its a very nice and highly rated resort...and mexico is an extremely popular destination and for most folks on TUG buying a mexican timeshare isnt really considered a great idea when you can rent so easily!

we always urge those interested in timeshares look into renting! its a fantastic way to enjoy a timeshare without having to become an owner! and you have access to nearly every resort in the world!

Yup. Got my 1BR at SFW for $1 on TUG. Rented it out twice through airbnb. Now if Shell/Wyndham would only tell me how to convert to points...
