I am interested in going to Moab. Thought I would stay at a timeshare and do an overnight to Moab. Looking for suggestions- where to stay for the rest of the time that would offer some other nice day trips.
thanks

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
You might want to consider staying in motels along the way because there are so many beautiful areas in that part of Utah but not many timeshares. I think there's one in St. George but it wouldn't really be conducive to day trips because you'd likely have to travel the same roads multiple times.

You may have already found this site but it has some useful info and pictures. We stayed at the Best Western in Moab when we went to Arches and Canyonlands and in a little locally owned motel in Kanab when we went to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. There's also Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park to see in that part of Utah, too.

Last summer we went to Brian Head, Utah, several times and there is a timeshare there--Cedar Breaks Lodge which is a DRI resort. We rented a really nice two bedroom, two bath unit for a couple of nights. On that trip we went to Kolob Canyon, Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and Panguitch Lake. Brian Head is primarily a ski resort but they have a few summer activities.

There are several timeshares in St. George, but it's too far to do a day trip to Moab. (The fastest route is still a five hour drive each way.) You'd be money ahead to do as Karen suggests, and just plan a motel trip for the days you'd want to see Moab. There are so many great parks and rec areas in Utah, you could spend a couple of weeks and never see it all. Here's how we spent one week, and we didn't even get close to Moab:

We exchanged into a St. George timeshare for a week several years ago. We flew into Las Vegas, and drove the two hours to St. George. We spent the first two days there, seeing Zion National Park, which is a 45 minute drive away. Then we went up to Bryce Canyon National Park, where we stayed overnight in a Ruby's Inn motel right outside the Park. Next day we went over the Hogsback on Scenic Highway 12 to Capitol Reef National Park. We stayed overnight in a motel in Torrey, Utah. Next day we backtracked through the Escalante, saw Kodachrome Basin State Park, down through Panguitch, and further down through Kanab to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. We stayed overnight in a canyon-side log cabin near the lodge. Next day we headed back up through Zion again, and back to St. George, where we spent the last two nights of our week. When we got our rental car back to Las Vegas Airport on the way home, they said we'd put more than 1500 miles on the car during the week we'd had it. Lucky thing we had free mileage! ;)

Nothing near Moab, it's in the middle of nowhere, but a lot of fun if your into 4X4'ing or mountain biking.

If you want to spent a few nites, try VRBO. It's been a few years since we stayed in Moab while 4X4 rock climbing, but it was in a condo rental.

A lot of country and parks to see between Koab and Las Vegas.

Make sure to check out the Moab Brewery. A brewery in the middle of Mormon country, with good beer and grub.
