We own a deeded week in a 2 bd OV LO at MKO. Next fall we're thinking about staying in the 1 bd and just renting out the studio, but we haven't done this before. I was hoping to check with owners here first before blundering into our first experience with this. What are the fees incurred by splitting your 2 bd into a 1 bd and a studio? And are Redweek and the marketplace here the two main sources for renting out your units? Which version of Redweek services are owners more comfortable with these days, or is there still plenty of variation depending on preference?

When did you buy your unit? Is it enrolled?

We just bought it this year (resale). Enrolled...in what? Just to add...I do see the $95 fee when starting to make a reservation for just a 1 bd or a studio, but will we be charged that $95 fee again when making a reservation for the 2nd reservation (for the remaining portion of the unit)?

$95 is a one-time lockoff fee to split the 2BR into 1BR and a studio, per week/year.

Enrolled would be in Marriott's Abound (formerly Destination Club) points program, which would give free lock off. As you just bought it, it is not eligible (without tens of thousands of $$ to Marriott.) If you had bought prior to 6/2010 enrollment is free.

As noted you will have to pay a single lockoff fee. Also if you could add your purchase to rofr.net, that would help out others making a resale purchase.

I may be incorrect here, but if you reserve your unit and then want to lock off you need to make sure you reserve a lock off unit. Not all 2 BRs are lock off there, but I think the 2BR ownership just varies by view and not lock off capability.
A Ko’Olina owner will know better, but just alerting you to making sure you book a room that can lock off, especially if you’re undecided when you book so initially keep it as a 2 BR
