Mistake with exchange request

I am brand new to timeshare and exchanges. I submitted a request for an exchange based on seeing a point value next to my unit I deposited with II. I know now that what I was seeing did not mean I had that number of points.

My unit is with Westin in Mexico for 37,000 points a year. I deposited the 2020 year into interval at the end of December. For the exchange, I thought that anything the search results turned up meant I could book it. I booked a week that requires 110,000 points. I put in my credit card information and everything. I also paid $59 for E plus.

So last night I started to realize I made a mistake and this exchange will not go through. I found a getaway for a good price for the same resort and timeframe. So I called II and was assisted by phone. I told the person to cancel the exchange request which he said he did. I then booked the getaway. My card is showing the amount for the exchange and E plus is still pending.

My question is will this exchange request be cancelled out altogether and my money refunded? The guy said he cancelled it but it’s still showing as pending confirmation online. Will my deposit be put back into my account where I can use it to do another exchange? My deposit was initially good until 12/31/2022. I don’t want to lose that time because I screwed up.

If it shows as "pending" on your credit card, you really have not been charged yet. My guess is the agent cancelled the exchange and the pending transaction will drop off from your card soon. Check it again in a few days.

Thanks. So if everything gets cancelled I will get my unit deposit back in my account with the original deadlines?

@Troyrissa Welcome to TUG.
Yes, II will cancel your confirmed exchange and refund your money.
The unit (points) you deposited to Interval remain in Interval. Find out its expiration date.

Do you own Westin Flex? Others here can help you determine what 37K will get you in II.

In general, you will want to set up an ongoing search request in II. You enter the date range when you can travel and the resorts that interest you. The ongoing search does not prevent you from searching online. Search online as often as time allows. Become familiar with the areas that have lots of inventory and those which have less frequent deposits. (Note: some areas get no deposits - so ask for past successes by frequent exchangers before setting up a search request.)

Keep asking questions. The more knowledgeable you are, the more successful you'll be.

Thank you for your reply! It is Westin Aventuras.
So I called interval today because the request still showed as pending. They confirmed the request was cancelled, and actually Vistana also sent me an email saying the request could not be processed.

The interesting thing is that Interval told me I don’t have anything deposited with them. They told me nothing was deposited from Vistana?? I’m confused because Vistana confirmed my assignment to interval when I did it at the end of December. It was my 2020 use year. So I will call Vistana next week, but do you know why interval is saying I don’t have a deposit, or why it doesn’t show in my Interval account?

Do you still see the request pending when you look online? If not, it was cancelled and it will take a few days for the charge to be removed. The charge may post and then show again as a refund vs just the pending charge drop off.

Actually I was referring to my timeshare ownership. Interval said they don’t show me having my timeshare 37,000 staroptions deposited with them from December 2020. I did this through Vistana’s website and got a confirmation so I’m not sure why interval can’t see my timeshare deposited.

Yeah, I think you will need to call Vistana. I was asking if you could actually see the deposit on the II website in your account instead of relying on a phone rep.
