If you have rebooted and it's still not working, try to reinstall it (actually, if the option exists to REPAIR current install, pick that option). Could be a system file got munched.

Are you able to create a new file?

Meanwhile, if you really need to get a file done, use Wordpad or try OpenOffice.org Should get you thru the pinch.

Post the question on www.bleepingcomputer.com in the Business Application section. All those folks are unbelievable helpful and KNOW what they are talking about. One guy in Australia walked me through installing 2 hard drives (laptop and desktop) step by step. I am hooked on them. Haven't had to call the computer guy in almost a year.

I saw you posted to Bleepingcomputer and got a fix from the Microsoft tech in Australia - hence the time delay. Did it work??

How does OpenOffice have anything to do with the OP problem?

Im sure youre not inferring that OpenOffice doesn't have bugs. :)

You Always Have Other Options.

How does OpenOffice have anything to do with the OP problem?

Im sure youre not inferring that OpenOffice doesn't have bugs.
Open Office installed & working el freebo is greatly to be preferred over stuck & non-working & fix-resistant MS Word.

Plus, Open Office will open & read MS Word files -- ditto WordPerfect files & PowerPoint & I don't know what-all.

Don't know about bugs.

Open Office works OK on our dinky Mac Mini. Might also work OK for the OP.

I have used Open Office for 3 years or so now. Never had any issues with it. I particularly like that it is free.

If you need to reinstall, an upgrade to MS Office 2010 might be worthwhile.
