Nikon Coolpix 8200 a good choice?

I want to buy a new point and shoot digital camera to replace my older Nikon Coolpix S51. I always carry a camera with me because my cellphone is a stupid phone and hubby does not want to spend more per month for a smartphone so that is out of the question for now. I love to take photos on vacation and of my friends, nature and cats (I have three). I want to also be able to shoot in low light without always using a flash and many times I like to zoom in on my unsuspecting cats at play or rest. I saw a good buy for this 8200. Is it worth it? I want to spend under $350.00, preferably around the $200.00 point. This camera is on sale right now. Thanks in advance!

these beautiful pics posted by Phydeux are from what kind of camera, I'm confused. And talk about people posting to their own replies, I was the original person asking the question about a point and shoot camera months ago. So, today I posted another question asking about the Nikon Coolpix 8200 on a seperate thread...I forgot I ever asked the question about cameras.

I think the point of Brett's post (just above your most recent post) was that Phydeaux kept saying that point and shoot cameras were dead, but if you look at the properties of some of the photos he put up for display (such as the one displayed at the top of this page) it was taken using a Sony cybershot. (Note the "dsc" in the file extension).

I stand by my recommendation of the Nikon S8100 (now replaced by the S8200 that you are considering) found earlier in this thread.

You'll love that camera, it takes a nice shot. I had the 5000, one of it's old predecessors. My daughter took her little cheap Nikon all over South America, and some of her photos are truly exceptional.
