We've been carrying on conversation with our Seattle area 'Kids'. They've chastised us for volunteering for a community cathring (turned out to be 5-7,000 attendees- many kids and families. He's a Microsoft manager, now wotking from home. She's a grad student at U Washington, an RN, finishing up a Master's pogram on public health. Also taking classes now from home.
Alex called last night. He hd been pretty much housebound, and wanted out. It was his weekend with his teenage kids. He didn't want to expose anyone to CV-19, so he and our grandson picked up his daughter, who lives with her mother. They just drove around. Out to Bremerton, Up toward Mt. Ranier, out to Puget Sound beaches. all over. When he took the daughter (our grenddaughter) home he found out that her mother had tested positive. SO NOW, he, Our son, His wife, and her kids that live together are all effctively exposed. They are upping their quarantine and retreating from public even more than they were. I know this is not unique and that this (or similar scenarios will play out over the next weeks and months until virtually EVERYONE is exposed. Some will just have sniffles, some will go to hospitals, some will die. But this is how it starts.

So WASH YOUR HANDS. Stay away from others. Flatten the curve! Be well!

Did her mother not know she was being tested because she was exposed or sick? Sounds like she has no consideration of others. Prayers sent their way.

I am so sorry to hear of this. Hoping all turns out well for your family.

Hopefully your story will help people understand why these measures are so important. Thank you.

This is for sure how others catch it. Hope all are able to stay healthy.

Well, that's a lot of the reason she's the ex. But really, to lay blame and point fingers at this time is pointless. This disease has no boundaries, respects no borders, infects everyone without judgement, deserving or not. We protect others by protecting ourselves.

I am concerned with closing of schools that many will consider it an extension of Spring Break. They'll hit the beaches, overindulge, party with dozens or hundreds of others and the spread will be exponentially worse.

Oh, wow, that sure hits home doesn't it? So sorry and hoping for the best outcome for them. I totally agree that this is the scenario that will be playing out all over the country in the coming days. Scary times.

Prayers to your family.

"Did her mother not know she was being tested because she was exposed or sick? Sounds like she has no consideration of others."

I agree that this sounds completely inconsiderate. It wasn't like he picked up the teen and took off for a couple days or a week! So the ex never mentioned (or the teen never mentioned) that mom was feeling badly enough to go and be tested.....but not badly enough to even "mention" it ? Humanity appears to be "in it for themselves"......this is just the beginning of finding out if we humans can work together on global issues.....we've got a bigger climate crisis right around the corner........I'm not optimistic.

I felt that way too seeing the photos of Spring Breakers on the beaches and hearing how crowded our own were. Plus we had so many people on the streets over the weekend, including ourselves. But I'm getting reports of top CHS restaurants with only 4 to 6 tables of patrons last night and the streets are quieter today. I've spoken to our 18 year old granddaughter and she was cool with their having decided two weeks ago to cancel their SB cruise to the Caribbean saying she wants to be safe and help keep others safe. Honestly, I thought I'd hear from her what I'm reading from a few others on TUG; that this is overblown and shouldn't apply to them. Grrrrr.

Might there be a case for criminal charges?

Geez, Jim. Terrible. I wish them to be well. You are of course very right. This is how it goes and will continue to go.

Might there be a case for criminal charges?

If this is the case, then everyone will be suing everyone else and our jails will be full of people with coronavirus. This does not seem like a solution or even something to consider. I hope this was a joke.

Cripes. Since there is a lag between test and notification, I would like to grant benefit of the doubt. The bottom line is that we should all be upfront and honest about our status, which is pending, positive or unknown (since a negative is only true on day of test). Don't be a creep. If I have been tested, that itself says doctors suspect it, and I would certainly reveal Pending status until results.

Jim wishing the best for you and your family and that none of them get infected from the contact with your son's ex-wife and his daughter. I am still amazed at how many otherwise reasonable, intelligent people I know aren't taking the current situation seriously enough. It scares me because once there is so much evidence to make it undeniable, it will be far too late to flatten the curve. I will gladly be accused of being an alarmist after this is over if I was wrong and am overreacting. In the meantime, I will continue to preach maximum caution.

My son went to the ER last night for an injury. After screening, he was seen. No cases have been reported in our county, but the doc said, oh yeah, it's here. He fully expects to have it (wore a mask). No test kits here yet, so we will get the official news after they arrive. This thread has been illuminating.

Sorry your son and his family are going through this. Praying that everyone there stays well and uninfected in the end.

It does indeed hit close to home. My DS told me last night he may seek out screening in order to be tested today. Cases are rising in his area, he isn't feeling great, and he works in healthcare so doesn't want to inadvertently be spreading it. I hope it's just allergies and fatigue for him.

We're all at war with an enemy that can't be seen.

Jim, so sorry your family is going through this.

I just got an email from a friend in my book group. Her parents were the second and third cases of Covid 19 diagnosed in Clark County, Washington. Yesterday, they both passed away within hours of each other in a local hospital. They were living in separate facilities, one in a small adult care home for dementia patients, the other at an assisted living facility. They were both in their 80's. My friend is now in quarantine. Her kid's have flown home and she cannot see them. She is heartbroken.

Scary times.

Wow, that is so sad. My condolences to your friend and her family. I hope she can be re-united with her children soon and that she is disease free.

I'm so sorry. Seems everything got awful very fast, and stuck alone! send her here if she wants to talk and not be alone.

Staying in. Staying away from others, practicing safe hand washing is how we s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the time before ALL of us get infected, which eventually, we WILL! If is happens TOO SOON, hospital beds and respirators will run out. Do what authorities say to do. No 'play dates' for kids. Don't take that Spring Break trip. Dine in. Many restaurants offer delivery or pick-up. Even my local brew-pub has a beer sales drive-through in the parking lot so patrons don't even have to get out of the car.

I think the hardest long-term effect is going to be keeping our local businesses open and supported, while staying safe. We are in real danger of coming out the other end of this into a true Greatest Depression without a core of small businesses.. Call me Debbie Downer if you wish, but that's how I'm seeing it.

But Hey! There's always TUG! Be safe, my friends.

Jim
