I'm sorry if this question has already been asked but everytime I search with the word "deposit" I get all sorts of stuff about the deposit people put down on their timeshare purchase.

On the "Mywebreservations" site for the Mayan resorts under "reservations" there's a link for "registered weeks deposit." Can someone explain this to me? When I follow it there's a page asking which weeks I'd like to deposit and it asks me for credit card info and it says something about RCI.

I don't belong to RCI so I doubt I'm able to deposit a week into RCI and get a week somewhere else through them. Or if I fill it all out does it register me with RCI?

Any help for this timeshare newbie/idiot would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you don't use your week, you will lose it (unless your contract gives you no go, no pay rights). You might still be liable for the maintenance fee for that week, even if you don't use it.
You can deposit your week with mywebreservations.com, and they will put it into RCI for you. You will then have 2 years to trade with RCI.
But, you have to belong to RCI, that is something you would have to do as a separate process...joining RCI.
i use RCI to do what you have tried, but I belong to RCI.
There are other exchange groups that would take your deposit that others can tell you about, ie SFX.

Yes, that's my situation.

Ah, ok, that's it! Thank you for explaining that to me. I know it seems rather simple but to me it was confusing since it appeared to deposit it into RCI but I don't have an account with them.

Well, I haven't done anything yet. Since it was asking for CC info I wasn't going to do anything that I wasn't sure what I was doing.

Thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated!

You can deposit it with other places, such as SFX, but then you need to have a specific week with a confirmation number to do so. I think you can call for reservations and they will deposit the week into SFX for you, or if you just made a reservation, you can use your confirmation number and send it to SFX or Trading Places, or DAE to exchange or rent the unit yourself.

When you make the reservation in your name, and rent the unit to someone, you then need to send a letter that the person with the reservation number is your guest.
