My daughter just exchanged into the Mayan Palace Riviera Maya and got a 2BR 2 bath unit based on my recommendation. She was looking to go to a warm destination in January and trying to get FF seats and after checking back and forth she reluctantly booked this vacation, Here is the problem she has two little kids one a four year old and an infant and didn't want to book this because she read reviews on expedia and trip advisor that it will take her 1/2 just to get from her building to the pool and main area of the resort. I told her to book the Mayan Palace not the Grand Mayan since I read that the Grand Mayan was furthest from the pool and that is where most of the complaints were coming from so here are my questions.

First;

What is the best building for her to request since she has two little ones and is nursing and will require several trips back and forth to her room. I read that buildings 1-9 are the best but is there any difference and in priority order which of these buildings should she request?

Second; She has a two BR lock-off unit. Does the second BR have 1 or two beds since she doesn't want to put the kids in the living room since they go to bed early and wants the living room for her and her husband to relax in the evening and maybe watch some TV after they put the kids to sleep.

Third; How many beds are in the second BR? Is it one king size or twin beds since she is considering bringing a baby sitter to stay with the 4 year old and baby in the second BR?

Since I highly recommended this I don't want my kids to be disappointed and try and insure that the Mayan Palace meets their needs.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated responses.:hi:

here is a link to their website that describes the master suite,:whoopie:

As far as the buildings, 1 is closest to the pool, ocean and restaurants, 4 and 5 are closest to the check in area where the cabs, buses, shuttles arrive and leave.

We were at the GM in March, I can't for the life of me understand why everybody thinks it takes so long to walk. Joyce was in a wheel chair, and it never took me over 5 minutes to get anywhere.

Your daughter is going to be very happy with your recommendation. Cudos,

Greg

Greg; Thanks so much for your quick response.

I got my daughter her honeymoon over 5 years ago at the Mayan Palace Acapulco and she loved it. She was trying to get the Grand Mayan in ACA for this trip but whatever week she selected she couldn't get free airline tickets using her FF account. She also tried the Grand Mayan in Nueva Vallarta and same thing happened, she couldn't get FF tickets. So I recommended Riviera Maya since they are on a tight budget. Anyhow long story short she was very nervous trying to coordinate everything and kept putting units on hold and then putting FF tickets on hold till she matched everything up for the same dates and location. She had enough miles on AA for two free tickets then contacted RCI for 1 free ticket that she earned through her RCI CC and the baby flies free and hopefully there will be an empty seat so that the baby won't sit on her lap. :cheer:

The 2nd bedroom has 2 full size beds & a bath.

I have been there several times and stayed in buildings 1, 2, 10, 13, & 19. I'm not into fitness and am 60+, but you should know that it does not take 15 minutes or so for me to walk from the farthest building to the pool/beach area - carrying a bunch of stuff in my totebag and a full small cooler. A stroller would help make the trip faster. My grandson loved riding the shuttles to the pool when we took him.

Building 10 (adjacent to the lobby) is pretty good because the shuttle stop is outside the lobby area so you can take the shuttle to the road or pool. The newer units are in buildings 11-20.

Generally, but not always, MP owners get units in buildings 1-9. They also do not take building requests. Since I own so many units and have the Profile A status, I generally get what they consider "good" units, but when at the Mayan Palave Mayan Riviera, we like being closer to the road to catch the bus to Playa del Carmen than a room in building 1 or 2. After a day relaxing at the pool or beach, I need the exercise to walk to the room.

The walk always seems shorter when you walk through the building hallways rather than the path.

There are restrooms on each end of the pool and in the building with the gift shop and Del Lago.

She & the kids would have loved the Grand Mayan because the "dipping pool" is perfect for kids. The second bedroom only has a king bed, but does have a loveseat with a pull out trundle that would have worked for the kids.

We just returned in July from Mayan Palace and were in Bldg 4. If your daughter and her family stay in the first 6 buildings, they will do great. Have her email the concierge @www.concierge@mayanpalace.com.mx the week before requesting Bldg. 1-6. I did this two times and at check in they didn't have note of this but I told them and had my email and we were placed in Bldg 4. On a previous visit had been in Bldg. 13 and there really is a big difference, especially with little ones. It's a beautiful place and I'm sure they will enjoy it a lot. We always get a car and go into Playa del Carmen at night for our "big meal" and the activities. It's just beautiful. The flamingos are pretty for the little ones (and big ones) at the Mayan.

If this is the first time your daughter has been to the area, I would certainly encourage her to explore the area rather than spend the whole time at the resort.

I'm sure it would be easy to find a sitter to travel with her on a day or two so she and hubby could check out some stalagmites, diving, snorkel, ruins, etc.

I can understand not wanting to walk very far in the heat or wait very long for transportation, but I'm sure if you give her tips and she takes along a stroller and umbrella (for the sun on baby) she'll be fine.

I really love the Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan in the Riviera Maya and go at least once per year. Good recommendation!

We always get good rooms you have to make it clear you will wait and it helps to get there early, but she has one secrete wepon the baby, the Mayan/Mexican people love babies we always put the babies on the counter when we are checking in. I know that sounds crazy but when you have small kids or infants and say we need to be close in if a room is going to come available then they will get it. You may have to wiat for hrs to get it but pack a pool bag and say that the wait will be no problem. works for us a few times a year

OK thanks to everyone for your recommendations. This is now turning into a family vacation as my other daughter, her husband and their 2 year old, my delicious grand daughter have also made an exchange for the same week as her sister so we will now be trying to get both units in the same building and preferabably near each other (or at least on the same floor).

So with three kids between them from 1-4 years old they are bringing a babysitter and it's me !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :cheer: :hi:

I plan on emailing the resort as suggested and will put all three kids on the counter when checking in to make sure we are all together preferably in buildings 1-6.

If that works, maybe you can rent out the kids to people checking in. :hysterical:

We stayed at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in May 2008. It shares the same grounds as the Mayan Palace. The swimming pool is the single finest swimming pool I have ever seen. The food is a little on the expensive side but is excellent. The concierge works very well and there are numerous tours available. I do not play golf, but the golf course is beautiful. You should have a great time. I have submitted a review.

I was wondering about this resort too, we are trying to decide between here or st martin for our 2009 November trade.

We would be trading into the Grand Mayan for a 2 bedroom too, and hopefully by then will have a little one who is 4 or 5 months old. I was scared away too about the stories of long walks everywhere.

Now reading this, Im back to being indecisive!
