I own a 1-bedroom unit at the Mayan Palace (Mayan Riviera). I stayed at the Mayan Riviera resort this summer, and hope to try some of the other resorts in the next few years. Obviously there could be a wide diversity of opinions on this subject, but I would appreciate your suggestions on other Mayan Palace resorts to visit (some nicer than others, any to just avoid, etc.)?

Another question: I understand there are Mayan Palaces in both Nuevo Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta - anyone have opinions on one over the other, and how do they compare to the one at the Mayan Riviera? Thanks for your help.

The Marina Mayan

Is a smaller resort, close to the shopping and restaurants in the Marina.
Also closer to the other areas of PV

The Mayan in Nuevo used to be a huge resort like the one in the Rivera Maya, but most of it has been removed to make room for the Grand Luxxe and the Grand Bliss.
It is now just in the larger lobby building.

The MP Riviera is large with a great pool complex, the MP's in PV/NV are much smaller now.
You can see some photos of the MP PV on our site http://www.timeshareparadise.net/home and click on the Photos from our March 2009 Puerto Vallarta trip.

We have been MP owners since February 1999 and have been to them all. All MP units are basically the same. They just have different color fabrics. Look at my pictures down by my signature.

We love the MP in Puerto Vallarta. The location is awesome! Some of these rooms are a little different than the MPMR.

The newest MP is in Acapulco and is very nice. It has a great pool and lazy river. It is not on the ocean/beach but they have a shuttle to take you there. It runs continuously and you can use the pools at the GM there. They are in the process of building a Luxxe and Grand Bliss on the property that is along the ocean. There may be some MP units in the tower that is under construction.

Puerto Penasco is really nice if you like peace and quiet. We can drive there in 4 hours from Phoenix.

The MP in Mazatlan was built on the Sea Garden grounds a few years ago. The units are nice, but the grounds are too croweded and the MP building is up by the highway. I love Mazatlan, but not this MP. I prefer other resorts in Mazatlan.

We also love the MPMR.

Although the MP in Nuevo Vallarta has been reduced in size from 7 wings to (soon to be) 2 wings (2/3 of the last building), if you get one of the rooms remaining, what's the difference? Good sized pool, very nice beach, and lots of restaurants on and just offsite.
The MP in PV is small, older narrower halls, but just a short walk to many marina restaurant choices and a short bus ride into PV or the marina where you can take many organized trips.
From either, whale watching is terrific.
Just curious, when you were in MP at Riviera Maya, which building did you get? I know the buildings go 1-21, so shuttles are helpful in RM like Phyllis mentioned they are in the new Acapulco MP to get to the beach.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I appreciate it. To answer rpennisi's question, I actually stayed at the Grand Mayan (building 7 I believe - the shuttle was required).

It was mentioned that the MP in Nuevo Vallarta (and PV) has been dramatically reduced in size to make room for the other resorts. How are the MP/GM/Grand Bliss/etc. set up in Nuevo Vallarta (and PV) - do they share the same pools/beaches/etc.? Or are certain areas/pools limited to one resort, similar to Mayan Riviera? The website is not that clear. Thanks!

PV is just a smaller resort

and has no other resorts on it's land.
The Nuevo MP can use the MP pool, just like in RM, the GLuxxe can use any, the GBliss can use any except the GL, the GM can use the GM or the MP, and the MP can use only the MP or Sea Garden pools.
The beaches are not restricted, except as an MP owner, your access is only from and to the MP, if you walk down the beach to the GM, they may require you to walk back on the beach, unless you are going to one of the restaurants, at least that is what I would say:rolleyes:

The MP in Puerto Vallarta is only a MP, therefore the entire pool and beach area is for them. There used to be a Sea Garden with an awesome water slide and nice lazy river across the street, but it was demolished years ago after the hurricane and the buildings were torn down too. These are on the Marina side with no beach, so I can't see a GM, GB, or Luxxe in this location. THere is just not enough space. That certainly works for me. They do close this resort in the late summer and early fall and send the guests to NV.

In Acapulco, they are building a Grand Bliss and Luxxe and the pool is quite small as they have closed off most of it for rebuilding. When I was in Acapulco in January 2011, many of the GM people were going to the MP to use the pool and lazy river because it was nicer! The lazy river at the GM in Acapulco has now been removed so they can build a Grand Luxxe. The buildings that used to have MP 1-bedroom units will become Grand Bliss at sometime, The buildings that were MP 2-bedroom units will be a combination of MP & GM units. (Maybe Bliss for those who bought them.)

So far, Puerto Penasco does not have a GM or GB, so everything is MP.

Mazatlan does not have enough space for GM, GB, or Luxxe. It is pretty crowded as it is.

I love NV, but when we go there, we tend to use our GM weeks so that we have access to the lazy river and wave pool.

When we go to the Mayan Riviera, if we are not taking grandkids, we choose the MP - they like the dipping pool on the deck. The resort is basically the same and we pay lower m/f. There still is no lazy river open at the Mayan Riviera, and the one that has been built is in the area with MP units.
