I stayed in the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta in April 2008. Accross the street was a sign that indicated that a Grand Mayan was to be built where the old Sea Garden was located.
I was wondering if anybody has stayed at the Mayan Palce in Puerto Vallarta recently and did they ever begin construction?

Mayan Resort, PV

I was just at the Mayan Resort in PV in Aug 2008. We are GM owners and they talked to us about upgrading. They took us across the street and showed us their sample unit. It was difficult to see beyond that because of all the fencing up and covering in front of the fences.

that sign has been there a couple of years. When they were asked each of the last 2 years when the construction would start they always said within 6 months so your guess is a good as anyone's.

We were in P.v Last Feb and have a friend who has worked for Mayan for many years and is NOT in sales so I tend to believe him more.. He said they were waiting for the height restrictions to be lifted a bit on that P.V. property so they could build a higher building than restrictions now allow. They are trying to negotiate (pay off??) so they can go higher because the property is so small. Sounds logical to me.

I was in PV three weeks ago (mid Aug 08) and it was in the same state as it was when they tried to sell me there as well back in March of 2007. I heard that it was never going to happen but I do not want this to be taken as a fact because it was second hand information.

It MAY happen sometime in the future. I think they really want to build there but I think the property is just too small and the restrictions on height are too tight for them to build anything "Grand" and have it big enough to make the profit they want. Who knows if or when they will get their way and build a very tall building there. Probably be awhile yet, I think, if at all.
