I just booked a 1 bedroom exchange for our family to Harborside. Now that I am looking at it I see that Max occupancy is 4. We are a family of 5 and have no problem staying in a 1 bedroom as our kids are 9, 6 and 3 but now I am thinking this may be strictly enforced at Harborside. I know I will never be able to get a 2 bedroom exchange there but will be get in trouble for having 5?

They allow 4 on the small side (one bedroom) and 5 on the large side (one bedroom premium) of the lock-off. However, even the confirmation for the large side will say that the occupancy is 4. On the large side the allow a roll-away.

it has a full kitchen so does that mean it is a premium 1 bedroom?

If the reservation says max of 4 it may be the smaller unit--but if that is the case I believe if the 5th person is under 4 it may still be OK but as others have said I would confirm the unit with the resort. Also if it is the larger one bedroom you might want to order a cot--actually much nicer than a cot==more like a real twin bed--it only can be used in the larger one bedroom but it fits nicely in the bedroom without taking away from space in the room.

I believe that all of the II confirmations say that the occupancy is 4, even for the large side. But Harborside will allow you to add a roll-away to the large 1 bdm.

Another issue is the wristbands for the Atlantis water park. They only issue as many as the max occupancy of the unit. But, who could turn away a cute wristbandless 3 yr old from a water slide?? After all, the bands do slide off, nudge, nudge...

Is there anything that would mandate that II traders into Harborside must have the same maximum occupancy as owners or StarOption and SPG traders? Wouldn't the maximum occupancy at any resort be a matter of contract between II and the resort (Starwood)?

If the II confirmation says that 4 is the maximum occupancy for a unit having a full kitchen (premium 1-br), isn't the maximum occupancy 4, not 5? Isn't what II provides on the II confirmation what controls use by II traders?

Just asking. I have no idea about the answer. But, shouldn't the answer come from II rather than "nudge, nudge?"

I guess what bothers me is that overcrowding at Harborside has become a sort of game for traders. But, overcrowding leads to excessive wear and tear.

I paid my Harborside assessment today. Right with the bill was a copy of the budget. The reserve section of the 2012 budget showed that for Phase II the paint job had 0 years remaining on its useful life, a replacement cost of $1.5M for the repainting and (IIRR) $191,000 in reserves as of December 31, 2011. That's not a good position to be in. ... eom

The II confirmations state how many the unit sleeps with no additional roll-away beds added. Each of the 1 bdm. units has permanent bedding for 4 guests.

It's Harborside's standard policy to allow 5 guests and a roll-away bed in the large 1 bdm., but not the Sm. 1 bdm. All you have to do is request it - whether you are an owner or an exchanger.

This is true at other Starwood resorts as well. If you have a II confirmation for WKORV for a 1 bdm. or a studio, it will list occupancy as 4. But it is the standard policy of the resort, to allow a roll-away bed and 5 guests in the 1 bdm. villa, but not the studio.
