Friends who are joining us for one of our two 2023 weeks on Maui wanted to try HuiHui based on a recommendation from someone they know, so we've already got a reservation there for March. Looking forward to trying something new.
Yes! I just looked at the menu for lunch. We like to do lunch at these restaurants because I don't like to eat a bigger meal at night. I usually do a little cottage cheese and sliced tomato in our room for dinner. So boring, I know!

We do love Cool Cats at night for tuna salad, it's a healthy choice for me, and we started going there by recommendation of Emmy and Peter Davies many years ago. Unfortunately, Emmy is not at all well and is in a memory care facility. Who knew that Peter would be the one that would continue their March-April tradition of Maui without Emmy.

That would be a nice easy walk from Ka'anapali. I will have to try that this next trip (two months away). I like to walk to Duke's from Westin. Rick and I couldn't figure out how to get through the Sheraton Black Rock to the other side to get to Whaler's Village. We will get that figured out. I love Leilani's on the Beach, but it's a memory of Rick's stepmom so it makes us pretty sad.

Has anyone tried Monkeypods in Whaler's Village? Used to be Cane and Taro (maybe not spelled like that).

I like Hula Grill for burgers, but they’re tartar sauce for fish and chips, well, I would likely bring my own next time.
Monkeypod is good, not cheap but nothing there is cheap any more.

I have never figured out the official beach walk route through the Sheraton. After you come around the point and are kind of dumped off in the Sheraton driveway, the signage stops. I always cross the driveway and pass by the tennis courts and enter the property, you go “through” an open-air corridor and then you’re in the grassy common area of the hotel. Just make your way through the grounds on one of the paths, aiming to come out at the far end of the property at the beach, where the boardwalk resumes. You’ll pass the pool, etc., it’s a pleasant walk and I’ve never gotten any strange looks for walking through there. One advantage of going this way is that you’ll pass a restroom on the Sheraton property where you can make a stop if nature is calling.

Alternately, turn left at the tennis courts and walk out to the main road (Ka'anapali Parkway IIRC) and then turn right and walk down to Whaler's Village. This will save you time since the boardwalk ends (because it collapsed) at the Ka'anapali Alii and you’ll have to walk out to the street there anyway, or walk on the beach itself, which might mean your shoes get wet and sandy depending on the tide. I found this out the hard way.

I love that walk and have done it more times than I can remember.

When we have stayed at Marriott, which we have been lucky enough to do many times, we do walk to Whaler's Village. I love the walk, but I have to say that I feel like I am playing chicken with people on that sidewalk. I try to stay on the walk to avoid tripping, but the younger people stand their ground and make me move off of the sidewalk. I don't get it. I am 67 years old and should be able to stay on that sidewalk. At least I don't have balance issues, but I can see a time when I will just keep walking and force them off of the sidewalk.

That goes for the entire beachwalk in front of Westin, too. Why do younger people think that old people should move for them? It's odd.

Half the time they are staring at their phones and maybe don’t realize they are about to walk into someone until it happens.

My pet peeve is people walking in a group and occupying the whole sidewalk. That’s fine when there's nobody coming from the other direction, but when someone else approaches, you need to go single file (or whatever) so that you are on the right side of the sidewalk. That just seems like common sense but a lot of younger people seem to think the waters are supposed to part for them and their entourage.

I think I’d recommend just stopping in place and make them walk around you.

It's not just the younger people.

It's not just the younger people.

It's mostly not them. They have more practice -- and from a younger age -- manipulating a phone while doing anything else.

It used to be you needed a stick of gum in order to determine who is incapable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. Now, with phones, that's on display all day, every day.

The Monkeypod has a pretty great happy hour. We never seem to get out of there without spending a bunch of money but it is one of the few places we will be sure to go a couple of times each trip.

We went to HuiHui 4 times in September. Very good , ocean front and great pricing for Kaanapali beach dining. I had the lamp chops 4 times, Wife opakapaka.
Will make reservation for next year.

I guess I should get on those reservations for Feb-Mar. We are those people who wait too long and are sorry, but we are also good with lunch, so that helps a bit. Kimo's is usually no wait at 2 PM.

Kimo's does take reservations. We went for lunch last year, without a reservation, and got there right when then opened. Got a great table.

What time do they open? I was thinking of Kimos while we were in Lahaina.
