I asked Coplit (AI) the following question.

Which Westin timeshare in Maui has the best reputation on TUG (i.e. timeshare users group)

Below is the response.

So how accurate is the explanation? I haven't stayed in Nanea but stopped by there. However, I thought it was nicer than North where we stayed.

The short answer: Westin Nanea generally has the strongest reputation on TUG, followed by Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas North (WKORV-N), with WKORV-South slightly behind.
Here’s the breakdown based on long‑running TUG owner sentiment, resort review patterns, and exchange discussions (including the Nanea sighting visible in your current tab Current pageCurrent page. 11 Views 274 Today at 9:25 AM HudsHut H II Westin Nanea Ocean Resort Villas Lahaina , HI , USA WNA July 2027 Select for ...).

⭐ 1. Westin Nanea Ocean Villas — Best Overall Reputation

Why TUG users rate it highest:
  • Newest of the three Westin Maui timeshares
  • Modern villa interiors, larger layouts, better kitchens
  • Strong owner satisfaction with build quality
  • Consistently positive exchange sightings (like the July 2027 II sighting in your tab) Current pageCurrent page. 11 Views 274 Today at 9:25 AM HudsHut H II Westin Nanea Ocean Resort Villas Lahaina , HI , USA WNA July 2027 Select for ...
  • Quiet, relaxed vibe compared to the busier WKORV properties
  • Excellent beach access shared with WKORV-N
Typical TUG commentary: Nanea is often described as the “premium” Westin option — newer, quieter, and more refined.

⭐ 2. Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas – North (WKORV-N)

Why it ranks high:
  • Considered the more desirable of the two original WKORV properties
  • Better unit layouts than South (true balconies, not Juliet)
  • Slightly newer than WKORV-S
  • Strong ocean views in many stacks
  • Very high demand in Interval International
Typical TUG commentary: WKORV-N is the “sweet spot” for many owners — great location, great beach, and better room design than South.

⭐ 3. Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas – South (WKORV-S)

Why it ranks third:
  • Still a very good resort, but older
  • Some units have the infamous “rail balcony” instead of a full balcony
  • More wear-and-tear noted in reviews
  • Views can be more variable
  • Higher density feel compared to Nanea
Typical TUG commentary: WKORV-S is loved for its location and beach, but owners often say: “If you can choose North or Nanea, choose those.”

🔎 How TUG Users Typically Rank Them

Overall reputation ranking:
  1. Westin Nanea — best villas, newest, most consistent owner satisfaction
  2. WKORV-North — best views + better layouts than South
  3. WKORV-South — still great, but clearly third in TUG sentiment

I’d agree with what AI said and I’ve been to all of them. We own Nanea for a reason!

We’ve stayed at the North resort and Nanea in a 1BR unit and we much preferred the North resort. While Nanea is newer the 1BR’s are not located in desirable locations. In addition we felt the area around the pool and restaurant was much too condensed and noisy. On the other hand we watched a couple whales swim by as we sat at the restaurant near the pool.

I'm not sure I'd agree. Actually I definitely wouldn't agree about Nanea, it's my least favorite of the three, and South is my favorite. I own at both South and North and er pretty much never stay at North because we like South better. But it's a very subjective choice. My sense from reading posts here for years is that many people agree with me, and I'm not sure I believe the Copilot is accurately reporting overall sentiment. But they are all good properties and I wouldn't fault anyone for having a favorite that's different than mine.

If I had an island view or resort view reservation, I would take North. No really bad views at North -- especially compared to South with its parking lot views and Nanea with its even worse parking structure views.

If I had an ocean front unit, I would take the corner ("deluxe") unit at South if it were a two bedroom reservation and Nanea if it were a three bedroom reservation. Those are the units the closest to the water.

Are you looking to purchase a resale or are you just curious? Nanea is a voluntary resort which I am sure you already know. The other 2 are mandatory resorts.

I will say the south OF corner units are very nice.

Quiet, relaxed vibe does not accurately describe Nanea, in my opinion. Both North and South are much more relaxed and not nearly as congested in the pool/bar area. We much prefer north with south close behind.

The fact that Nanea is almost all large units without lockoffs presumably leads to far more families with kids staying there. One of the reasons I initially bought at South (pre-construction!) was the assertion that it would be less overrun with kids than resorts like Maui Ocean Club, and that has mostly been true. (I have nothing against kids, especially well-behaved ones, but when vacationing, a less chaotic environment is welcome.) So I agree with you completely.

Very subjective, depending on what your idea of a fun vacation is and who is in your traveling party. Nanea is new and good for multi-generational groups as it has the 3 br option, but I find the pool area crowded and noisy with a bit of an obscured open view of the ocean. When our son was traveling with us, south was our choice with the large pool with the water slide, the pool area is definitely more spacious than North and Nanea, and the true OF units at South are definitely the best out of all of the 3 properties. Now that it's just 2 adults vacationing, North is perfect for us and we consolidated our purchases into North a few years ago. It's a bit quieter on the pool deck, we enjoy the beach and the great ocean view from the pool, and we really like the OF views from Building 8. I do wish they'd get a good Food & Beverage manager in; the offerings at all 3 properties have been on the meh side post-pandemic, but not enough of a problem to worry much about. Plenty of good food on that side of Maui!

We like North the best, 2 balconies, better views, nicer pools, oceanfront hot tub by music
The kitchen at Nanea bugs me as the counter space is limited. But in reality all of the 3 are fabulous

Here's a little trick with the Nanea Kitchens: The dining table is high, counter height, and long. We turn the table and move it so it divides the kitchen and living room, and use it as a kitchen island. Because it's high, you can prep on one side and eat on the other. Or eat at the large table out on the lanai. Works great!

I agree that the AI report is inaccurate; there are many factors that it missed. We own in the South section and have stayed in all 3 sections, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

in my opinion nanea is best for small kids and families along with Maui ocean club. North and south for older kids and adults. Can’t talk about views since I exchange into them most of the time and get put in the not desirable units but beggars can’t be choosers.

The "thing" about Nanea is that it is very very close to the sewage treatment plant. Under a quarter mile. Usually the tradewinds don't blow the sewage smell. But.... when I make an exchange I'd rather not take the low risk that I'm getting Kona winds. Google AI says that it is only 20 to 50 days a year. Not bad odds. But I'd rather go to the older Westin South.

I'm not sure that's a huge difference given they are like 0.3-0.4 miles apart? Or has anyone noticed that? I've been to all of them multiple times and never notice any smell like sewage. I think the sewage plant is 3-4 miles away based on the map im eyeballing.

Yes, the Westin South is about 0.3 miles away. But the Nanea is much closer. Some of the NE rooms might be only about 500 or 600 feet away. Me? I'd avoid Nanea. With my luck, we'd probably have Kona Winds which could result in kind of a crappy situation (pun intended :) )

I have only seen Nanea from the outside pool/bar area (was staying in south) and it seemed very compressed, busy, and as noted a bit chaotic. Am aware of the sewage problem as well. I would never turn down an opportunity
to have an II trade there, but it would be my last choice.

My sisters are staying at Nanea now, they arrived a day late due to the storm and cancelled flights. The sewage smell was pretty rank yesterday morning, but later in the day, there was no odor. I have a particularly sensitive nose and have smelled that odor from the lanai during our stays, but Rick never smells it from the inside of the resort.

I love Nanea and won't hesitate to trade in. There are far more pluses than negatives here at the resort. I am in awe of my trades.

I heard a tropical storm is coming in. I hope my stay on Oahu at the end of the month is safe.

We bought in the South in 2003 and in the North and 2006 and have been to the villas many times over the years, but we are staying at Nanea for the first time just now. All 3 are great properties. We own an OF Center in the South and love it. All rooms face the Ocean and they have huge Lanai’s. OF corner are great, maybe for the side windows in the living area, but for owning, you pay a huge premium in annual fees over the center. Non OF studios have the limited balcany. Some OV’s have no OV and Island Views can overlook the highway.

North property OF’s are not as good as the south OF but Ocean and even Island Views have decent views and have 2 balconies. No real bad views in North.

We have the dreaded 1BR parking structure view now at Nanea. We are on the 4th floor, so from inside, the view is quite nice of palm trees and the mountains. Not so nice on the Lanai mostly due to road noise. If you can avoid roadside or even the park side units, much less road noise. On first entering the 1 BR, seemed very spacious, and modern. After using the kitchen, the modern cabinets are beautiful, but we we do not like them that much. Bathroom has a tub/shower combo. Seems like they had space for a tub and seperate shower. I like Denise’s idea on the kitchen table - will try it! Pool area does seem more crowded. Deepest part of the main pool is less than 4 feet….way to shallow for my 6’3” frame. Sand/gravel pool below looks great for small kids.

If I were exchanging, North is probably the best bet with 2 balconies and no bad views. Staying in the OF Center next week! Next summer we are bringing extending family with 2 new grand kids….new perspective!

We’re at Nanea now and loving it! We landed Saturday around 2pm, just before Lala hit. This is our first trip to Maui with our kids (15, 13 and 9). We traded into Nanea through II and somehow ended up with an amazing unit in Building 8 on the 3rd floor, overlooking both the pool and ocean. The view is incredible - assumed I’d have the parking structure view since it was an II trade. I added 3 nights at WKORV-N through a VSN Escape, so we’ll move over there on Saturday. I’m excited to compare the two properties. So far, I’m very impressed with Nanea. The room, grounds and pool area are all great, but we’ve also spent quite a bit of time off property exploring the island. One of the biggest surprises has been the snorkeling right off the beach in front of the resort. Even after Lala, the coral and snorkeling have been amazing; lots of fish and several sea turtles right in front of the resort!
Overall, we couldn’t be happier with our first Maui experience. Feeling very grateful to be here!

Somewhat biased from our 2Bd parking lot view while staying at Nanea - with the constant beeping from the shuttle turning around. So it was not ideal and definitely more hectic with kids. Plus we own OF at WKORV-S. The WKORV-S has a more open feel to it as B2 and B4 have good separation between the buildings.

If you are info snorkeling and beach - the WKORV-S/N are by far superior. The UW scene in front of Nanea is muddy and the beach is not as good. We actually ended up driving and parking below B2 during the day and used our spot outside B2. The bar area at the WKORV-N is the best for hanging out - especially for sunsets, and the music.
The smell depends on wind direction and sewage-treatment schedule. Also people have different sensitivities to the smell (beta-mercapthanol - we used in the laboratory to denature proteins). I am sensitive to it and can pick it up when walking north after WKORV-N (B8?), while Robin only smells it when it is strong.

Most years (since 2007) we have rented the studio lockout side to help offset the MFs with excellent results. That value has declined recently, but still rentable and adds value for us.

B8 is WKORV-N? The snorkeling reef is off of WKORV-S/N.

We were in building 8 in Nanea. Looking inward toward the pool. Room 8306. It was a great room as it also had a good view of the ocean (even better since we got it via an II trade). We got into the ocean right on beach at Nanea and the coral was great. Saw a huge turtle less than 5 feet from shore eating off the coral bottom. We snorkeled over the coral all the way from Nanea to south. It was continuous and great the whole way. This was the view from our balcony.
