When trading into the Maui Schooner utilizing II or SFX, is there a way to insure you can be assigned a unit in building A vs. building B, or is it just potluck?
When you exchange into a resort, it's potluck. Expect the worst view, and then you won't be disappointed if you get it, and you will be happy if you get a better view. Generally, owners get assigned to the best views, first.
Adding to Denise's good advice, it doesn't hurt to call the resort about a week before you leave and request a specific view/building. Usually they'll tell you that they will make a note of your request but they can't promise anything. Ask for the person's name and thank them. I've been successful doing this at least 50% of the time.
That person, I believe, is Nancy. A very competent manager.
Yes, Liz, Bldg. A has the best views. There is a park between the bldg. and the ocean but the view is awesome. Most of the condos in bldg. B also have a peek of the ocean I think.
Don't know about Phil but we own at the Schooner. Indeed Nancy is an incredibly good manager. I never found a more immaculate better equipped condo anywhere on Hawaii. Keep your shades on when you come in the front door--everything shines and is squeeky clean.
Embassy Poipu could learn a whole lot about making their owners happy by following the Schooners business model.
We have an exchange for 02/22/09. I will follow the tip suggested and call a week or so in advance, requesting the A building. I am pleased to hear so many good things about this resort. It appears small and doesn't have many amenities, but everyone has positive remarks. I notice on travel websites that the rental rates are quite modest; much lower than Maui Lea where we own. The Schooner sounds like a very good resort and a well kept secret among the choices of Maui timeshares.
In spite of Maui's excessive property taxes, we are happy owners at the Schooner. We always request A-406, 18 months ahead, in order to enjoy the corner balcony view. Last summer, we were able to get a trade with Trading Places for our daughter and grandkids. We expected them to be placed in the B Building, but were delighted when they checked in on the 2nd floor in A Building. When we avidly thanked the staff, we were informed that they always check and make an effort to place owners in Building A whenever possible. We feel the Schooner staff do go above and beyond to please their owners and we have always praised the efforts of Trading Places. Although we are members of RCI and II, we only use those companies sporadically for last minute getaways. If we need to deposit, we prefer to give Trading Places our business. We have had no difficulty upgrading to 2br units, when needed, and appreciate the personal contact by TPI reps, and consistent results! We will be at the Schooner 1/24 to 2/07 and again 7/11-25/09. Retirement is sweet!
