So I am going to go ahead and assume the world will be back to normal next year.
Looking at 2 BD MOC - How would you rank the following views:

Choice of Views available are
Ocean Front - Molokai, Maui & Lani
Ocean View - Molokai, Maui & Lani
Mountain View - Molokai, Maui & Lani
Island View - Lahaina & Napili
Mountain View - Lahaina & Napili
Ocean View - Lahaina & Napili

Island view Napili is definitely NOT comparable to the Ocean Views/Fronts, but it's still lovely (if you are fleeing Chicago in January!) and it's lower points so you can stay longer...but only worth it on the higher floors and my understanding is that points reservations have trouble getting up there. We are weeks owners with that view so I really can't tell you the fine points of the others. I'm not sure there is a Mountain View in Napili?

As Hangloise noted, you probably want to decide whether you want a full kitchen and washer/dryer in room, which is Lahaina/Napili

Higher floor will be better for any of the above, but won’t know if you get it until you get there. Guessing you’ll get floors 4-6 during prime time.

OF tops all. No OV in Napili, but will be good in the other three if you get high enough. Slight chance you could get a view close to garage in Lahaina.

You can get a sense of views from these diagrams:

Even low OV floors aren’t too bad. This is floor 3 in Lanai tower.

This was a little over a month ago. Right now it seems like years ago with all that is going on right now.

Don’t care about Laundry or really inside of villa.
Main thing is holding a cold drink and a view.
All are available but trying to decide if worth cost for a vs b.
Like OF is much better than OV but OV is only slightly better than island.
Thanks for all the help so far. Keep it coming.

If you're not as concerned about a full kitchen and in-room washer & dryer, my vote would be ocean front Molokai, then Lanai. Those buildings physically sit closer to the water (especially Molokai) than the newer Napili and Lahaina, so the ocean front views are better in my opinion. 3rd choice would be Lahaina, then Napili 4th (Napili is set the furthest back of all of them).

Thanks. DC doesn’t give you building choice choice just groups of building. So are you saying that Ocean View M,M&L is better than Ocean View L&N.

There is no OV Napili. My personal opinion is that OV Lahaini is a safer choice than OV M, M, & L...and the villas are nicer. It is in OF where the older buildings really shine (assuming you don't need a washer/dryer).

If view is your #1 factor, my personal selection would be Molokai/ Lanai ocean front, then Napili/Lahaina ocean front, then Molokai/Lanai ocean view (the ocean views across the main pool, landscaping, and ocean are awesome if you're not going to be ocean front), then Lahaina ocean view, then mountain/garden as last resort.

BTW, when I went to MOC ~4 years ago, they had a singer at the restaurant at the bottom of the Lanai building. We got free live Hawaiian music/songs every night when we opened the windows. It was really nice. Hopefully they still have that singer.

Thank You. Exactly what I needed. Need to look at what points I have an then let CEO decide what she wants. If any disagrees with this ranking let me know. Always looking for other opinions.

Also, one other question. If I can only give the group OF at one hotel would you choose OF MOC or OF Ko Olina. I am leaning MOC because we are going whale season but don't really know.
Thanks again. Nice to dream of next year than think of right now.

rthib -

I own at both Maui Ocean Club and Ko Olina. If you want views and whales, choose Maui! Many more whales which can be viewed even from the resort in Maui.

At Maui Ocean Club....my opinion matches dlpearson's. The best views come from the OF villas in the Molokai/Lanai buildings. Those buildings are VERY close to the water, within feet. You can't really get much more Oceanfront than they are. Views are fantastic. The second best would be OF villas in Napili/Lahaina (very nice, just further back from the water)...then followed by OV (most are good regardless of building). Oceanview is nice at Maui also, better than most resorts 'Oceanview' classification by far.

For Ko Olina, there is no Oceanfront. Instead they have Oceanview (and Mountainview). Many of the ocean view villas as Ko Olina are fantastic overlooking the man-made lagoons, but are set back much further than Mauil. In my opinion, Maui Molakai/Lanai Oceanfront definitely trumps all given their proximity to the water if you just want view.

So splitting stay between Maui and Ko and of only have enough points would you:
Maui-OF/KO-MV
Or
Maui-OV/KO-OV?

Given those 2 choices I'd do Maui OF & Ko Olina MV. You might consider renting some additional points to do OF & OV. If you have any MVC exchange deposits, you might be able to get into Ko Olina as well.

I would do Maui-OF and KO-OV -- even if you have to slice a day off of the KO-OV stay to make it fit in your points budget. Thirteen days vs. fourteen days will be forgotten; the views will not be.

High floor in Lahaina and Napili are your best bet. That said, I had an awesome 1BR on the 7th floor of Lanai. It was a strange shape on the end, but had a long balcony overlooking the mountains and a wraparound peek-a-boo view of the ocean. But was a 1BR.

Thanks for all the help. Vacation is book. Everyone was so excited to starting dreaming of next year!
I love when a plan comes together. Got cheap resale points that bumped me to executive so I could book early and get exactly what I (or more correctly what my wife) wanted.
