Are any tuggers currently at Maui Ocean Club who can answer a question for me?

We will be staying at Maui Ocean Club in a few weeks. While there, I am hoping to connect my laptop computer to the flatscreen television to use it as an external monitor. Even better would be to use the television speakers for sound.

Does anyone know what external connections are available for the Maui Ocean Club televisions? More specifically, what type of cable would be needed? Does the resort perhaps provide the necessary cable, or should I bring that with me?

Given that the rooms were recently renovated at the end of 2011, the televisions are likely new models, so any recent info appreciated.

I'm not sure about this resort, but they have been installing 42" LG panels at many of the other resorts. These have the standard HDMI, Composite, and Stereo inputs on the side or back of the set.

I have never seen Marriott Timeshare facilities provide extra cables for connections. Not to mention laptops. I would think this is not a common use scenario for the timeshares.

I suspest you will need to bring your own VGA out cables. 10 feet cables would probably work well.

That being said, I'm not sure you can connect these sets as monitors.

I suggest you call the resort directly and find out the make and model installed. At least then you can download the manual from the internet and see if your usage scenario is possible and what cables to bring along.

Good luck!

I am amazed at the lack of uniformity in connecting laptops to TVs in both Marriott hotel rooms and timeshares. You would think that with today's technology that it would be a simple connection via HDMI and an input change. Unfortunately, some of the Marriotts do not have the foresight to provide this electronic request. I have frequently been given incorrect information from "At Your Service" personnel and lately have asked to be connected directly to the Director of Engineering at the property. The most common problem has been attempting to change the input, even on TVs that have an input button located on the set. For some reason, Marriott is lagging behind in providing this much in demand service.
