Thinking about staying end of Dec 2016 but we wanted a one bedroom with full kitchen. Does that limit us to the newer towers?

Is Maui Ocean club considered one resort where the older towers and the 2 new towers all share the pools and other facilities?

Yes, the only true villas (full kitchens) are in the new towers.

It doesn't matter if you stay in the old section or the new towers, you can use any of the pools on the property.

Thanks for both replies. Is this a good location to stay for 9 nights (assuming that's even available as I can't search myself) or would we better off spending a week here and then 2 somewhere closer to east to minimize driving?

It's not a good location, it's a great location, and you can certainly spend 2+ weeks there without having to change resorts, IMO. The villas in the new towers are gorgeous.

You're coming in at the tail end of their construction (ending 12/10/16), where they're renovating the large main pool. If you wind up staying there, you'll have to let us know how it looks (and pictures are always appreciated).

Moving is such a hassle - why waste your vacation doing that? ;)

The glory of the MOC location makes up for having a 45+ minute drive when you want to visit Kihei, Wailea, Makena, Paia, and of course (even longer) Haleakala and Hana...just plan to whole day(s) south or east to make the drive worthwhile.

You could easily be happy just in West Maui: lots of beaches south of Lahaina on Rt. 30, Lahaina, the MOC beach is one of the nicest around, snorkeling at Black Rock, drive 20 minutes north (without traffic!) to Napili Bay, Honoloa Bay, Maui Brewing Company, etc. etc.

Thanks for the suggestions. According to owner services, there's nothing available currently for the Christmas week as it's the most in demand location at the most demand week so looks like a moot point.

Looks like we'll be looking for alternatives. Since my vacation is tied to the school calendar for the next decade or so, inventory at peak travel times was my biggest concern when I heard about the DC program.

I can't address the crazy demand of Christmas/New Years weeks, but when shopping for other high demand weeks, I've found DC points availability at Maui Ocean Club to be excellent as long as you are searching right when the 12-month booking window opens. I've also found that to be true at most other resorts I've shopped as well.
