Does anyone know of any traditional lomi lomi healers on the Island of Maui?

Thank you for any information.

The only traditional lomi lomi healers I know of are on the Big Island. If you find one on Maui please let us Tuggers know.

I thought lomi lomi was a raw seafood dish. What type of healing is this?

Are they the same as, or similar to, massage therapists? A quick google search found this: http://www.mauiwellness.com/
It is a type of massage. Massage therapists can train in any number of modalities and lomi lomi is a style of traditional hawaiian massage which uses long flowing strokes.

There are so many styles of massage: Sports, Remedial, Swedish, Thai, Chinese, cranio sacral therapy, acupressure - the list goes on.

IMO its important to choose a therapist who is a fully qualified and accredited massage therapist first and specialises in lomi lomi second (if that is the style you want to try).

Avoid those people who have spent a couple of week-ends doing a course to learn lomi lomi and have no other medical training. Also, make sure the practitioner has insurance and takes a full medical history from you.

Sterling, is there someone you would recommend on Hawai?
thanks,
Liz
I'd start by contacting Tutu's place @ 808-885-6771/885-8336 for Hawaiian Healers

Maile Napoleon 808-887-2675

Papa Kay 808-989-3963

None of the numbers are recent so I hope they still work. There was an article in Hawaii Magazine several years ago pointing to Tutu's Place as a good source. Tutu in Hawaii is grandmother.

Western medicine doesn't have all the answers.
