Hi all - haven’t been to Maui since the new car rental center opened. Can someone tell me how it is different from the old system? Do we still wait in line for a shuttle when we arrive? Also - have any of you used Alamo and can you get a quicker pick-up of your car if you join their member club? Waited in line for over an hour last time we were there and am trying to avoid that this time! Thanks!

Just got back a couple weeks ago. The new center is MUCH faster. cross the street and board the tram. takes you right to it. I got my car within 15 minutes as opposed to the usual hour or more wait. I think you will he happy with it. I can't help with your Alamo question, but I got my Avis car so quickly, I don't think that is going to be an issue any longer.

The new center is much more convenient. You walk across the street, take a very short tram ride to the left over to the new center, get out, and the rental agency offices are right in front of you.

I am not sure about Alamo, but others should be able to address that.

Have a great trip,

Best regards.

Just double checked - we used Budget, but with the "fast lane" membership we were able to completely skip the check in area and go straight to the pick up point. I suspect that Alamo would be similar. It can't hurt.

It's definitely worth joining their frequent club. Doesn't cost anything and gets you to the front of the line as they have all your info

We did the same a few months ago. Straight down the escalator to the garage to pick up keys and head to Costco!

Alamo also has "skip the counter":
No need to visit the counter or kiosk. You can go straight to your car!

In order to take the advantage of this optional free service, you'll need to check-in online then choose the 'skip the counter' option. You will be required to confirm your protection options, agree to the Rental Agreement Terms & Conditions and enter a valid credit card (no charge is made until you return your vehicle). Simply print your rental agreement to bring with you, and you are all set! Go directly to your car, show the booth agent your rental agreement and driver's license - and get on the road!

This is only true if you book direct with the company, in my experience. If you use a 3rd party to book (Costco, Expedia, Chase, etc) they won't recognize your "status" as a member. This has happened to me with numerous companies as I usually book with PL, Expedia, Chase, etc.

This has not been my experience at all. I rent all my cars via Costco and just this August used Budget on Maui and their express service and it worked like a charm and I bypassed the main counter which was packed and was first in line at the express counter downstairs.

The other thing to mention is that instead of waiting for the shuttle it's actually quicker to walk to the new car rental terminal. i left the family at the airport and walked over and actually beat the shuttle by a few minutes. It was probably a 5 min walk.
