;) It seems that every year when we go to WKORV, our flight arrives about 8:30 p.m., we struggle with the luggage, ride the rental car bus, unload the luggage at the car rental office, stand in line for the car, move the luggage to the car, load the car, drive half asleep across the island, unload the car, check in, park the car and FINALLY settle in for the night. Last year, we there were six of us and with luggage we wouldn't fit in one mini-van. We decided to try an airport shuttle. What a great idea! They met us at baggage claim, loaded our bags, drove us across the island and dropped us at the front door of the resort. It was much quicker and a lot less hassle. We reserved ahead and rented our mini-van starting the next morning from Enterprise at the Sheraton Maui (we took the resort shuttle from WKORV to the hotel). The mini-van had plenty of room for all of us without luggage.

DH & I will be returning to WKORV in a couple of weeks. We are currently planning to not rent a car. We are reserving the airport shuttle again (I believe it is Maui Executive Transporation). Once we are at the resort, we can take the resort shuttle to the Whalers Village, Cannery Mall and Lahaina. If we decide to go somewhere that the resort shuttle doesn't go, we can always rent a car for a day or two.;)

What a great idea! How much was the ride to WKORV aeroflygirl?
We will be in Maui the end of April and will not be arriving til 10 pm. The idea of an airport shuttle makes perfect sense.

Great idea for folks who arrive late and who are content to stay in one area.
However, I've found that it's usually cheaper to book a weekly car rental (5 days or more) than it is to book a car for a day or two, so we always rent.

Here's what we do to save time: When we arrive, the men go directly to the auto rental shuttle line, while the women/kids go to the baggage claim. By the time we retrieve our luggage, it's only a few minutes before the men arrive with the cars.

Note that it also can save a lot of time if you join the auto club's loyalty program (e.g. Emerald Club) prior to joining. Most have their own dedicated lines so that you can skip ahead of other people. Some also are now offering kiosks and/or "Save Time" features where you can fill in a lot of info yourself prior to arriving. I highly recommend doing this.

Aloha!

The "Save Time" feature is with Alamo and it's great! Rented out of West Palm last Easter. Just checked in at the kiosk(took all of 5 min.) and off to get the car. The dirty look you get from people in line is priceless!:D

It's even better at major airports(like Orlando) you fill out all the info on line and no kiosk even. Just go and pick out a car and go.

The division of labor(getting car/bags) is something my family has always used. Dad would go retrieve the car(rental or parked at airport) and the rest of us would get the bags. The timing always seemed to work great.

Maui Shuttle

The weekly car rental rates are definitely more economical than daily rates. We also found that the rental rates from Enterprise at the Sheraton Maui were less than the rates at the airport.

We just decided that since we go every year, and this year we don't have "tourists" in tow, we would just kick back, relax and simplify. The other great thing about the resort shuttle is that if we have a couple of drinks with dinner in Lahaina, we don't have to drive back to the resort.

The only drawback I could see is that you cannot stop at Costco to do the week's grocery shopping -- which we are there two weeks/annually so double the food bought. How do you do your grocery shopping? Certainly something to think about though, thank you.

As the usual designated driver, I couldn't agree with this more. The complimentary shuttle is a great asset to WKORV, IMO. Now if we could only get a paved walking path like south Kaanapali Beach, I'd be happy as a clam.

Groceries

We like to pre-order a few groceries so our unit has stuff for sandwiches, drinks and breakfast to be placed in our unit the day of our arrival. The next day we take the resort shuttle to the grocery store at the Cannery Mall.
