material need to surround sand volleyball court

We have a sand volleyball court in the backyard and we need something to use as a border to keep the sand in and the grass out. It needs to be soft on the toes and ankles so we dont have injuries if someone runs for the ball . we thought of a ground cover and also the soft stuff they use on playgrounds. we are looking for more ideas.. anyone????
