Back in early 90’s we bought a Mountainside unit resale from an owner. We were considered owners and always (in later years and visits) given Gold CArds for discounts at ALL the Massanutten resorts/amenities including the Great Eastern Resorts on the mountain as they were added on. This year when checking in, MVOA said we needed to update our older ID cards and that we would pick up our stickers at Great Eastern that would attach to show our Gold Card status. This year, for the first time, When we went to get our stickers, we were denied by Great Eastern. Of course i don’t travel with my deed information in my pocket. This Gold Card crap didn’t exist when we bought. Can anyone enlighten me on it’s history? Mountainside is a separate HOA from the Great Eastern Timeshares and operates independently from Great Eastern as it was the original timeshare on the mountain and tied into the private homes on the mountain . Because if this, As owners at Mountainside ….we don’t pay extra daily resort fees……the use of recreation center and pools are part of our MF. We’ve owned now 30 years, and were always told we had exactly the same rights as an original owner…..that’s why we had Gold Cards to use down the hill. Anyone have any history?

Gold card status is a developer paid benefit and they can take it away at anytime. Unless you have a contract that specifically states you receive a gold card, I don't think you have any recourse. Gold cards give you something like a 10% discount on about a 1/4 of the activities and day use of facilities when not staying on property. I am not really sure what other privilege's you are missing by not having a gold card. I have owned at Mountainside for about 6 years and unless purchased through great Eastern, Mountainside owners are not eligible for gold cards.

We’ve owned since the early 90’s. Have had and used our ‘old’ (provided by Massanutten Villas) Gold Cards with no issues until this year. The Gold card was never an issue in the early years as it didn’t exist. The developer who built Mountainside Villas was the same developer who built French Lick in Indiana……even to the blueprints of the units. We owned there too. I don‘t recall Great Eastern being the original developer of Massanutten Villas. I’m Looking for anyone with more history information. Things only started to get combined after the other properties started to get developed. Mountainside still doesn’t have the other add on resort fees the way the Great Eastern properties do, plus Mountainside is dual affiliated with RCI and II. I will never deposit our unit to RCI, ……with limited availability in the area, it’s a very powerful trader in Ii.
