But, I've got a question... since Marriott has the ROFR, aren't they going to exercise this to keep the free transfer from occurring?

It may fail ROFR, but unlikely on a gold week. See https://rofr.net/

A $0 Gold unit passed ROFR in 2025, but two Gold units failed at $1500 in 2023. It really doesn't matter to the OP. If Marriott grabs it at ROFR, he is still rid of it.

The Gold seasons usually pass the ROFR no problem.
Platinum is another story.
