I have only been to MDS II so not sure about I. Do exchangers to MDS I have access to the hotel facilities such as pools or taking the boat rides? Thinking about taking our grandson there.

DSV I certainly has access to the amenities at the JW Marriott Desert Springs hotel. That also includes day passes to the Spa. Though I think those using the spa must be 18, so not sure that would work for your grandson. I don't know how the boat rides work at the hotel for DSV I guests. I tried asking the DSV front desk via text for more information on our last stay and they were rather cagey about it all.

As @dioxide45 said, you will have access to the JW. This includes the Spa, the pools and tennis courts. But I think that there are blackout dates when the JW is really busy like around holidays. Check with the concierge about access on the weekends because I don't recall about them. To get spa services like a massage or facial there will be a fee.

The boat rides are for whoever is in the JW. No charge. I've used them when I've been at either DSV1 or DSV2. In the past we have been able to charge things at the JW against our unit at DSV1 or 2.

I believe guests have access to the JW facilities from M-Th or maybe Friday. Definitely not on the weekend.

Good to know! My grandson is only two so the most thrilling things to him are boat ride and possibly a fancy swimming pool. 😀

Is the parking at JW free? It seems plenty of parking spots. I will stay at DSV2 so might have to drive over.

DSV 1 and 2 both have a shared shuttle that will run you over the the JW.

They do charge for the boat rides now no matter if you are a hotel guest or timeshare guest. You need to make reservation via app or QR code. Staying at Villas 1 will have access to the spa on weekdays. There are shuttles that run to the spa and if you want to dirve over, as of my last visit last year, there was no charge for parking.

Thanks for the map! I should have had it somewhere but couldn’t locate it now. Anyway, we ended up having a 2BR at DSV II and a studio at DSV I, both with Monday checkin. Are the buildings of specific check-in dates? What should I request to have the two buildings relatively close so it’s walkable to each other?

The map should show you where the units are located. It is also available over the internet from several places.

Being walkable is a relative term. I'm 75 and I often go on an exercise walk around ALL of DSV2 (except Jasmine Court) and also DSV1. But if you want to minimize the distance, choose a DSV1 and DSV2 location somewhat close to the check-in/clubhouse. Also, remember that there are shuttles that will take you around.
