Shouldn't you be posting that on a BonVoy forum? It is not relevant to MVC timeshares.

It is relevant because MVC owner levels are tied into Bonvoy status. Autograph collection is somewhat a joke when it comes to breakfast. We have had bad experience, including at the Lido in Newport Beach.

The article is complete clickbait - the Platinum Elite benefits are only “Complex” to those unwilling or unable to actually read the T&Cs And in no way do the T&Cs “allow hotels to skip Elite Breakfast benefits”.

That said, I have encountered a number of hotels where the staff have no idea what the T&Cs actually say. Which is why the relevant passages are both bookmarked and captured as photos on my phone. I’ve actually had front desk staff ask me to email them a link to the T&Cs.

"It is not relevant to MVC timeshares."

I entirely disagree with you, Leslie.

Likely, long before you even knew what a Marriott timeshare was, or your very first post on TUG, there was a large universe of Marriott Vacation Club owners, for whom Marriott's (lodging, hotel division) brand loyalty program, once called the Marriott Honored Guest Awards program, then Marriott Rewards, then Marriott Bonvoy, was an integral part of Marriott timeshare ownership, and for whom Marriott timeshare ownership goes hand in hand with Marriott's brand loyalty program.

To date, Marriott timeshare owners have a significant stake in Marriott's brand loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy. In fact, Marriott Vacation Club's marketing efforts involve a significant amount of data mining in the Marriott Bonvoy database, and marketing to Marriott Bonvoy members.

I do double check before booking-it is confusing. Autograph no 🥞, portfolio yes 🧇? And I still don't understand the difference between thise brands.🤷‍♀️
Or, is a certain Marriott a “resort,” with no breakfast or is it a “hotel” just in a resort area, which would have breakfast? Do I get 🍳, just 🥐, full buffet or a $10 voucher towards a $20+ breakfast? And, if there’s no lounge, do they have to offer breakfast in restaurant if I don’t want 1000 points? 🤷‍♀️ I pack a granola bar, just in case my analysis when booking was incorrect! 😂

Well, if Marriott International, Inc. had not completed a corporate spin off in 2011 to create an entirely new company called Marriott Vacations Worldwide, which is completely separate and apart from and not under the control of Marriott International, Inc., then I would not believe that a post about BonVoy hotel service is unrelated to timeshare ownership, because, as you remember the old days "long before you even knew what a Marriott timeshare was" the connection went hand in hand. However, time has passed, indeed, it has been different for 13 years. The "hotel" company doesn't control any aspect of the "timeshare" company. There are separate shareholders, separate boards, separate business addresses, etc. Marriott International, Inc. and Marriott Vacations Worldwide do indeed cross sell and cross-license, but again, the hotel company is not the same as the timeshare company. BonVoy status is not recognized at timeshares, and owner level is irrelevant at Marriott International Inc. hotels. At some point in time, you are going to have to let go of the belief that they remain one and the same. It simply is not true.

And, btw, in case you are still focusing on the era that the timeshares were part of Marriott International, Inc., the Westin VC and Sheraton VC owners are also granted BonVoy status depending upon their owner level. Thus, my point that this topic isn't something for the "Marriott timeshare" forum, but a general topic that covers BonVoy.

The poster did not claim that the companies were one in the same. Also, BonVoy status is absolutely recognized at vacation club properties. As a titanium member, I receive 1000 points at check in and earn a 75% bonus on purchases while staying at a resort.

A lot of hot meaningless air about nothing, as none of this is pertinent to the MVC Forum here. Historically the MVC forum has been the place for all things "Marriott," timeshare or hotel.

Not sure how you missed this in your 7 years here .

LOL - so "all things" Marriott, whether relevant to the timeshare company or not? Well, then how are you old timers going to be able to let all of the Westin VC and Sheraton VC owners in on the awful things that are happening with BonVoy if you insist on keeping it only on the "Marriott timeshare" forum?

All I said was shouldn't this be on a BonVoy forum? Despite the change in entity, it seems as though many perpetuate the false narrative that Marriott Hotels is one and the same as Marriott Vacations Worldwide. It simply isn't. It reminds me of the post where an old timer was so upset because of the Marriott Hotels data breach, and he actually seemed to think that Marriott International Inc. was the parent company of Marriott Vacations Worldwide.

In my 7 years here, which have been quite sparse, admittedly, I've always wondered why folks seem so ignorant of the distinction between the company whose ticker symbol is MAR vs the company with the ticker symbol VAC. I would hope your lawyer training would be put towards helping others comprehend what a corporate spin off means instead of perpetuating a false narrative.

LOL - why you old guys insist on not reading what I wrote. I simply suggested that the post was better suited for a BonVoy forum, and not the timeshare forum. Guess what, I also receive BonVoy points when I check into my timeshare ownership. But, in case you missed it, the Westin and Sheraton owners also have BonVoy status. Thus, it is not exclusively a "Marriott timeshare" issue.

Last time I checked, those things were not tied to MVC ownership levels as Bonvoy status is.

But hey, the system is always changing. Maybe MVC owners get a new discount at Kroger or something.
Let's not forget that the system actually did change in the last 5 years and Westin and Sheraton VC owners also have BonVoy status tied to their ownership levels. Thus, my point that this post should be in a BonVoy forum and not in a Marriott timeshare forum.

The babbling continues, but YES. I never said it was Marriott only, I said historically that this forum has been use to discuss things all about Marriott hotels and timeshares. Over the years people have discussed Marriott Rewards/Bonvoy, parking fees and other amenities at Marriott branded hotels. There is no "Bonvoy forum" here as there is no need. As others have noted the connection between the hotels/timeshares still exists, despite the corporate changes. There is a shared reservation system and many others.

As to your strange leaps of logic, discussing things about Marriott hotels in this forum does not perpetuate the misunderstanding about the corporate structures. The people who are uninformed about the various structures, connections and trade names will continue to be whether or not we discuss Marriott hotel issues here. Despite your hopes and wishes I am not here to make them come true, regardless of my background.

Did I tell a joke or are you just being condescending? I'm in my 30s. If you don't like a post, report it to the admins and move on. No need for self-importance here. Your tone is well suited for the cesspool of Facebook.

"BonVoy status is not recognized at timeshares" -LeslieDet

"Guess what, I also receive BonVoy points when I check into my timeshare ownership." - also LeslieDet
As is typical, taking statements out of context. BonVoy status is not recognized at timeshares. That is per the BonVoy T&C. Simply because one receives BonVoy points at check in to their timeshare doesn't equate to status being recognized. There are no upgrades, there is no early check in or late check out. There are no F&B credit. I should not have to explain that to you, but here we are. Good to know you have been so concerned that you take the time to quote me.

What you are completely ignoring is that the OP is tangential to timeshares because it is about an autograph hotel that is apparently not complying with the T&C for BonVoy status. No matter how much you attempt to demean me, it is still irrelevant to Marriott timeshare ownership. It may very well be of interest to those who hope to travel to that hotel, but again, it is entirely tangential to "Marriott timeshares." Simply because a story exists about BonVoy does not mean that it is timeshare. Yes, they overlap. But they are not the same.

By the broad definitions folks are using to create a relevance, then I would assume that anything with the word "Marriott" in it thus qualifies for "Marriott timeshare forum". There is a sale on bedding and pillows from Marriott.com -- hurry, post about it in the timeshare forum because it has the name "Marriott" in it. Someone has a problem at a Moxy -- quick, add a post in the Marriott timeshare forum to point it out.

There are plenty of forums on TUG that have many non-timeshare topics. My point was and remains that the autograph hotel violating BonVoy T&C is unrelated to Marriott timeshare ownership. I would assume that the general feed, whether it is about traffic, an actor dying, recipes, or social security, would be the place for the topic. That was my point.

Bonvoy is certainly relevant because we get the status based on ownership level. While it is not important when we stay at MVC resorts, Bonvoy benefits are tied to our expectations of what the status gets us at Marriott hotels. Free breakfast and lounge access are what I have come to expect when I stay at a full fledge higher brand Marriott hotels. Internationally, many of the JW Marriotts, Westin and other higher brands provide full hot buffet or sit down breakfast, some having like 50 to 100 items in the dining room for buffets, along with lounge access. It is one of the reasons that we chose to be Marriott timeshare owners. We travel to Marriott brand hotels. I was a fan of Marriott Rewards program before I even owned a Vistana/MVC timeshare.

Quite literally my status is recognized at MVC properties. I am always thanked at check in for being Titanium. Also, just because some benefits apply to a particular brand and and some don't doesn't mean my status is not recognized at all. Ritz Carlton doesn't offer a breakfast amenity to platinum or higher. Does that mean that my status isn't recognized, or just that one particular benefit?

What you are ignoring is that everyone else that has contributed to this thread is interested in discussing this topic, even if the article is related to an Autograph collection hotel and even if you are not. What you also fail to recognize is that it is in no way your perogative to decide what threads/posts should and should not be part of this forum. While this lack of control may be somewhat startling to you, it is the reality. The good news is that if you don't like the content of this forum, you are free to leave at any time. Short of that, you afforded the option to report the thread to the admins who can decide whether or not it's relevant. However, since this post has already been here for some time and hasn't been deleted, it would appear it's been decided to let it stay. Maybe it's time to scroll on by to contribute to other topics.

As for me, I'm going to go back to enjoying threads that I'm interested in and ignoring the ones I'm not interested in. It's quite simple for me to do that.

Sorry, despite all your words, you are still wrong. This forum has always included non-timeshare Marriott issues. Period. You may not like it or want it, but that is the factual reality. Until Brian decides otherwise, that is how this forum operates, and you are weeing into the wind.

Do some searches, you may even find that people have discussed bedding, pillows, and sheets:eek:, as well as key cards, and reservations, and restaurants, and . . . with no Leslies calling them out.

Lol - all I asked is "shouldn't this be posted on a BonVoy forum?" That is a pretty simple question. But golly, guess that the masses want to know about all things "Marriott" regardless of whether it is for timeshares or not. What makes me laugh is your personal attacks on me. I never said that it was my prerogative to decide which threads should or should not be part of the forum. Nice to know that the cesspool folks you think are on Facebook are actually here controlling the forums and mandating the irrelevant remain. The good news is that if you don't like what I commented, you are quite free to scroll by anytime and ignore my comments. Oh wait, that is what you were telling me to do. LOL.

It is so sad that this thread has devolved to this ridiculousness, with outlandish behaviors by a member, whose behaviors have been normalized.

But, they are not normal.

Leslie. I appreciate your contributions to the forum but the fact that you constantly get into p*ss*ng matches is maybe not because of everyone else.

If you want to be a moderator and decide where things go, maybe you should ask Brian for the title. Alternatively, if you see something in one place that could be of value in another, you could just post it there.
