i have traded a (1) bedroom MArriott Desert Springs the
First week in March for a (2) bedroom Marriott Waiohai Beach club
Between September 1 to December 15, (9) years in a row.
I confirmed in only (1) week.

I have been trying to trade a (1) bedroom Marriott Desert spring the First week in March for a (2) Bedroom Marriott Waiohai Beach club, between June 15 to July 31. I have tried for (4) months with no success?

Do I have any chance for success or the Trading Index very great difference for Marriott Waiohai Beach club June 15 to July 31 vs September 1 to December 15.

good morning....

you will get it during Flexchange!!! less than 60 days!!!

When you trade up 1 bedroom for 2, I don't believe the Marriottprefernce kicks in...

I also thought that you could not put in an ongoing request for a 2bedroom with a 1bedroom unit outside of flex interval...

Marriott preference begins to diminish during flexchange but does not go away entirely.

The op has a Marriott so that is not an issue. If you have the ability to wait until last minute, flexchange or just before flexchange, you will probably get your trade.

If you could go the second week of June instead of the third week. You would increase your chances greatly.

Summer inventory in a 2 bedroom Hawaii is a lot harder to get than Sept-December. It still may come through. Many who do request summer also do it 1 year+ not the 7 months in advance that you have so even with equal trading power there are probably others in front of you in the line to get the few summer weeks that are deposited.

It also doesn't help that you are now competing with the DC for those units and that wasn't an issue 9 years ago. Marriott seems to be waiting until 60 days or less to deposit in II any weeks that it has control over.

good morning

It was my understanding that a one-bedroom unit could not be used for ongoing request for two-bedroom units, could someone please clarify

A 1 bd unit can be used to request an ongoing exchange in the case that the requested trade only has 2bds, and in the OP's original case, Waiohai only has 2bds.

Hello 1965,

I responded today to your other nearly identical post titled "Marriott Desert Springs given to me" that you had posted a few days ago. That post was merged by Tug with another nearly identical post from an earlier period. In that merged post you were asking what appeared to be a hypothetical question about the ability to trade a DS2 silver efficiency for a Waiohai in Nov and early December. You mentioned that you beat the odds 8 years in a row.

I'm confused. In your previous post, you first mentioned that you were trading an efficiency silver season. You then changed that and said it was an efficiency gold season and now are raising the question regarding 1 br. platinum. In an earlier post, you said that you had sold all of your Marriott timeshares. Also now you say that you've made the trade 9 years in a row (rather than 8) and over a wider time period.

So, could you clarify why there seems to be a bunch of discontinuities in the information in your posts? I'm not trying to be rude. But if you are posting hypothetical questions and people are taking time and effort to answer them in good faith, maybe you should tell them that this is a hypothetical/rhetorical question that you've posted. Again - - not trying to be rude but am a bit puzzled ....

What Michelle said is correct. Though, the II system will not let you open a request for a unit larger than the unit you are giving up. If I offer up a 1BR, the maximum unit size that I am willing to accept has to be indicated as a 1BR or lower. This is a physical selection when filling out the request form on the II website. When you put in a request for a resort that only has 2BR units you still check the 1BR box on the form; however, if you have the trade power and the exchange comes through, you get the 2BR since there isn't any smaller unit size available.

This is how many of us use our 1BR and studio units to get 2BRs outside of flexchange with ongoing searches. We also use instant exchange. However, that would not have worked for our recent exchange in to Ocean Watch for April. When I did an instant search with our 1BR Harbour Lake, it showed nothing available. When I opened an ongoing search request, the request matched overnight.

This is another reason why using DC points is so unappealing to us. We travel in the shoulder and off season and the points we would get for trading out week does not come close to getting what we can get through II with off season trade ups. I indicated in the past that I think Marriott assigned far to high point values to many off season weeks as compared to what you can get through II.

We still like the DC system as the consolidated fee works well for these lock off trades. The added flexibility may also prove useful in the future.

I am also curious about Waiohai trade power. We are looking at going in October/November 2013. Has anyone been successful using a gold 1BR Grande Vista or Harbour Lake week to exchange in to Waiohai in October or November? We would be able to place a request like the OP. What are our chances of getting the trade outside of flexchange?

BTW, how do you even pronounce Waiohai? Is it Why-e-oh-ha-e? I have some handle on the Hawaiian language with our two trips there, but I am sure there are others that know better than I.

Why - Oh - Hi :hi:

I asked that when we got an exchange into Why - Oh - High, and some funny TUGger answered with, "Pair - Oh - Dice." :D

Thanks, that makes more sense. The single "i" at the end would have an eye sound, where the double "ii" has the ee sound. Thanks for the lesson.

Like the word Ha - wai - i

wai = why

i = ee

The vowels in Hawaiian are very similar to the vowels in Spanish.

a = ah
e = eh
i = ee
o = oh
u = oo (as in spoon)

My Grandfather said, "Ha-why-Ya" - and not as a joke! :D
