If I wanted to visit this resort, what points package would I need to buy?
I concur with the above, if you want to visit here routinely, I'd buy there either EY or EOY depending on the planned frequency. If you just want to go once or twice, I'd rent of use a different option to get there. I'm not sure where you are for integration to timeshares or how flexible you are but buying something else and exchanging in is often the best choice. Whether that's a points purchase (resale or hybrid) or a resale week to exchange depends on the goals, flexibility and risk tolerance as well as the budget. If you give us more info about your usual and desired plans in terms of flexibility, # of weeks/yr, school limitations, where you want to travel and unit size needed, your knowledge on timeshares and whether you own others; I'm sure we could fine turn any suggestions. If I wanted to visit this resort, what points package would I need to buy?
Most people don't go to hawaii every single year (We do). It's a big expensive commitment.
Holy mackarel!Expensive is right! Our family of 4 do 3 weeks at Waiohai every year. Even after maxing credit card points for free airfare, it's an $8K trip when all is said and done. By far the biggest chunk is maintenance fees.
Thank you!I would always prefer legacy weeks (Marriott) to MVC points. MF's are way too high on the points unless you demand the flexibility and have wads of cash.
The Marriott points DO resale; last reported ROFR was $3.75 per point.....which results in about $6-7 dollars a point with expenses etc.... So let's say >$5.75 per point.
Waiohai resales are affordable: $8000 for annual IV may or may not pass ROFR. $12k for OV. Waiohai oceanviews are variable from poor to excellent. Short term stays (1 week) will probably get a poor to OK ocean view. IV owners on short stays should expect to get a good (interior) island view. Exchangers who own Marriott will probably get a fair-good island view and external exchanges (no Marriott affiliation) may indeed get the dreaded 'parking lot view.'
Unless you're going to Waiohai every single year.....after year....I would buy a different Marriott legacy week and exchange into the resort with Marriott preference.
I owned and sold Waiohai IV. I got the Waiohai and Maui and Ko'olina exchanges with Worldmark and Grande Vista as well. All views were similar on room assignment.
