Pardon my ignorance, but does Marriott Vacations Worldwide now own everything?!?
I just checked the careers pages of Trading Places International (TPI) and Vacation Resorts International (VRI) and they are re-directing to Marriott Vacations Worldwide. I'm a little scared, because I own two one bedroom intervals at Gaslamp Plaza Suites, which is managed by VRI, and I am very happy with the low maintenance fees and current management scheme. However, I'm afraid that Marriott is going to interfere by raising the management fees which will no longer make renting out a viable option for my weeks.
Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with Marriott. In college, I worked for a Courtyard hotel and have fond memories. I also enjoy staying at the Residence Inn when I get the opportunity. However, while the big, sprawling timeshare resorts can be nice, I do not think that they are worth the ever-increasing high maintenance fees to support them. The owners have no control over how their resorts are managed.
Does anyone know why Marriott is interested in owning TPI or VRI? Why are they interested in managing the smaller, older, independent owner-directed resorts? It makes no sense to me.
