Hello,

I am just learning about timeshares and I would like to know more about Marriott in detail. I remember finding on this site somewhere a detailed description of the major vacation clubs/TS's but I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone have the link to the Marriott information?

Thanks!

Look at the stickies threads at the top of this forum

Read every post under Marriott Resort System. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn. That's what I did before I bought mine.

Agree 100%! Read and take notes on posts in this forum. Believe the info here perhaps even more than the sales representatives for MVCI. If you sit down with a sales rep take more notes - come back to this forum with your questions before signing any papers. Good luck - ownership can be a great thing if done correctly.

HERE is a good general overview that was posted to a similar thread where the OP was asking for general info. It may be a good starting point for you to get a general understanding of what you will be reading in the Weeks and Points Sticky's.

At the risk of over-simplifying, I'll give you a short list.
Pros:

  1. Excellent quality
  2. Lots of great locations
  3. Trades in Interval International
  4. Has some value/desirable on resale market (could change)
  5. Trades well
  6. Marriott Trade Preference
  7. Lock-offs
  8. Resale points/weeks hybrid bundle offers value, flexibility, points rental
Cons:

  1. Expensive to buy (relative to resale <some resorts>)
  2. Expensive to maintain (MF's)
  3. Weeks system may evolve (negatively) over extended time period
  4. Expensive weeks/points resales could loose value in future
  5. Super-premium locations/dates hard to book with just one unit
  6. Down-trading/Exchanging increases 'per-week' cost
  7. Weeks only (legacy) unlike HGVC points
  8. Resale DC points very expensive (relative)
Just my 2c. You'll notice I own two of them, so I kinda like 'em.
Among the hotel resorts, I think the real questions are: cost/value, fixed vacation location vs trading(internal)/exchanging, weeks/partial weeks, 12 mos reservations/less than 12 mos, and locations desired.

cheers.
