In the past you were not allowed to exchange weeks for Reward Points, if you purchased from a non-Marriott reseller. With the new points program, has that changed? Are there any other changes for weeks purchased from someone other than Marriott?

Thanks.

Marriott offers all owners who purchased their TS before May of 2010, to join their point based destination club (DC). Anyone belonging to the club can trade-in their week and get reward points. So someone like me who bought a resale marriott TS in 2009 and then in 2011 joined the destination club can trade use of my TS for reward points (I think I can only trade 1/2 of my points per year)

If you choose not to join the DC, then all resale owners have the same rights as they always have.

Hope this helps

PS there is a marriott board on this web site that is a better place to ask questions about Marriott. I'm moving this thread there.

Isn't it trade for points every other year for most properties?

Those people who enroll their weeks in the DC program can trade their week for Marriott Reward Points for the amount that the original buyer had in their documents. So if the person I bought my week off of had a trade for MR points provision of 90,000 points, then I as an enrolled owner of resale weeks can trade my week for 90,000 Marriott Reward points.

The documents are somewhat ambiguous and there has been some contentious debate on how often an enrolled resale buyer can trade for MR points. It seems that if the original buyer could trade every year, then the resale owner can only trade every other year. What is not known for sure is if the original buyer could trade every other year, can the enrolled resale owner also trade every other year or once every four years.
