Soooo when we bought the resale EOY Shadow Ridge TS. I only lightly considered trading (the "I"s are because my hubby is letting me do all the research and decision making on the TS buying.) We stayed there many years ago and thought this was an awesome resort! So in my head I was just envisioning our little family of 4 staying there once every other year.

But now after reading all the posts about trading and the lock off feature, I'm trying to find information. The information mostly seems older. And I'm still not clear on the trading system. And the way Marriott works for resale week owners.

I believe I understand that weeks owners have to trade via II. Once our resort deed has been transferred and Marriott is aware of our existence, what then?

Am I responsible for paying for II if I want to trade?

Or does II come with the ownership?

We have an II membership with Starwood, can I use that for Marriott?

If you have SVN network and SO's (SVV KW is mandatory right?), then you'll need two accounts. You'll need to activate (and pay for) an Interval account (via Marriott/Interval) and register your week (s). You can choose regular up to platinum level with II. They do have specials; ask. Platinum is generally only good if you use lots of GC's or getaways.

You'll want to deposit your week with Interval via Marriott desk (at least the first time). When you do reserve your week for deposit, use the 'deposit with Interval' and select "let me pick the week.' "lock-off" etc.. You will pay for the lock-off fee. Always reserve a week with a high-TDI. Look on the Interval site to determine the best weeks to reserve for exchange power (don't need to be a member).

Interval will charge you when you exchange or place an on-going search and/or add eplus. II fees and charges are here: http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74057 fees have gone up a little, but info is still pretty good.

how to pump-up your exchange power?
Deposit early
Pick a high-TDI week.
Use an On going search...either request first or deposit first. Don't expect good finds to pop-up instantly. Select multiple resorts and dates--not just 1.
utilize eplus to trade up within 59 days.

If you have specific questions feel free to post. Marriott preference in II is a very powerful tool to get good exchanges. I just turned my Grande Vista Studio into a Waiohai 2br in peak season. :D

Wow! Thank you!!

Is there anything I need to do to take advantage of the Marriott preference?

Nope.

Marriott units deposited into II have Marriott preference for Marriott exchanges. The MP is up to 23 days (as far as we know). It may not always have MP and it may be less than 23 days. Inside of 59days (flex) Marriotts may or may not have MP, if they do, it seems to be short lived (3 days to a week?).

It makes it very easy to find another Marriott outside of peak-time/peak-place etc...

One other thing to note is that if you place an ongoing request, you will be charged a lower exchange fee if you ONLY request Marriott properties. I know the fee for Marriott to Marriott exchanges went up $5 recently to $129.

I'm not sure what the exchange fee is if you include non-Marriott properties in your request since I never do it.

Also, if you include Marriott AND non-Marriott properties and pay the higher fee, nothing will be refunded if you end up getting confirmed into a Marriott.
