Looking into buying a Marriott trader. I’ve been a long time owner with Wyndham and DVC but considering giving away 1 of my 3 Wyndham contracts to acquire a Marriott to use for II. I’ve read thru lots on TUGBBS. From what I gather, I should get a 2BR gold or platinum contract. Does it matter the locale? I don’t ever really plan on staying at my home resort; I’m currently looking at Shadow Ridge or Ford’s colony 2BR. Just want to get the most out of the MF and looking for locations that have lower likelihood of special assessments for weather related disasters. TIA for any advice.
Wyndham Founder; Disney OKW & SSR; Marriott's Willow Ridge and Shadow Ridge,Grand Chateau; Val Chatelle; Hono Koa OF (3); SBR(LOTS), SDO a few; Grand Palms(selling); WKORV-OF ,Westin Desert Willow.

Shadow Ridge is great, but consider Willow Ridge as well. Fees are lower. Also Grand Chateau is good. Only buy platinum season. There is no reason to buy Gold because you pay the same MF's as Platinum, and resale is cheap enough to make Platinum a better thing to own in the longrun.
We have noticed (Sightings thread) a downgrade of trading power of our deposited weeks here on TUG. This may be temporary with II, but it's something to consider when purchasing. Gold weeks (I have one of those) are not trading nearly as well as they did before the downgrade. Again, I think trading power may adjust back up at some point. TDI is supposed to be the gauge for reserving weeks, but TDI is inaccurate, if the 4th of July weeks at Willow Ridge show as the same TDI as a week before or after July 4th, the trading power should be identical. It's not, however. The 4th of July is a supertrader for me, while the week before is just a great trader. I can see all Disney with all of my weeks, even my Gold weeks, which is good.
The annual maintenance fees at Shadow Ridge are too high. Also realize that property taxes at the California Marriott resorts is billed separately by the county. Manor Club Sequel is okay, but the fees are getting high there too. If I were buying today, Grand Chateau would be my first pick followed by Grande Vista then perhaps Willow Ridge. All Platinum season.
While TDI is a general identifier of strength I don't think II uses it for trade power comparisons. Why would they when they have so much more real time data on trading demand at their fingertips?
Shadow Ridge does have high MF. Also make sure the resort you get locks off.

Aren't all of the units lockoff? But you still have to pay the $95 to effectively lock it off. Weird to me. Housekeeping costs are higher with two units? I don't think so. But I do pay the $95.
Property taxes are relative to the area in which the timeshare is located. We pay $401 for Hono Koa on Maui, a very ordinary resort that finally had an update after 20 years of the same old furniture. They did change the beds a few times in those years, but GEEZ!
Anyway, it's about $117 for Shadow Ridge.
The fees at Shadow Ridge are less than Westin Desert Willow. I am getting myself confused with the Ridge and the Willow being Westin and Marriott. We need some new names.

Thanks for all your replies! I’ve been watching videos and reading forums on how Interval International works and looking up potential contracts on EBay and on here. I’m fairly well versed in Club Wyndham, RCI and DVC. Looking to dump one of my Wyndham contracts and acquiring Marriott in its place! Everyone on here is such a great resource!
Can I ask what it sold for? The next hurdle is for it to pass ROFR with Marriott. If they think the price is too low they will exercise their rights to buy it.
Be sure to enter the details of the sale on rofr.net. This site helps others track what prices will pass and fail ROFR so we can value weeks. The more data points the better!!
