Two questions, one Marriott related and one TUG related:
1) With all the various options of resorts, "week quality", number of bedrooms, etc, I'm trying to determine if there is a "shortcut" to figure out trade power. What I want to run by the forum is whether upfront price can be used to approximate equal timeshares from a trading perspective. For example, and not using real numbers just trying to illustrate my point, if a 3 bedroom platinum week at Marriott Grande Vista has a resale value of $9000 and a two bedroom red week at Newport Coast has the same resale value, would they have comparable trading power? I realize in general Newport Coast has higher trading power, but is the 1 less bedroom reflected in the resale price and trading power? I hope I'm conveying this clearly.

2) I'd like to become a TUG member so I can hang out and gather information from all the great people here, maybe rent some weeks, etc. I saw on the website where you can pay for the membership, but it seemed to deal with folks that hadn't already joined the forum. Is there anything special to do sign up so I don't end up with two accounts?

Thank you!

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
Price has nothing to do with it. The week within a season especially with resorts with long seasons. II puts a lot on size. A 3 br platinum Orlando would probably trump the 2 br Newport Coast. But then again II often plays with trading power so what is true today may not be true next year. About 3 years they did a fairly significant downgrade of the platinum season studios. Also sometimes the degree of trading power isn't that significant. For example for online availability my Marriott 1 br has about identical trading power as the 2 br if I don't lock off. For an OGS it might jump me a few places in the line but I may have gotten the exchange anyway or I may not get the exchange even using the 2 br. Difficult trades are going to be difficult trades.

That's a good question, and I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you. But I've alerted the other moderators/admins to it and you should have a Private Message with instructions within a day. Please let me know if you don't hear anything by late tomorrow afternoon.

Welcome to TUG!

Membership with TUG is completely separate from being registered in the forums. There are plenty of people registered in the forums that are not TUG members. There are also a lot of people that are TUG members that never read the forums. They just use TUG for the reviews and information articles. You don't need one to have the other

OP,

This thread is a little dated, but we tried to learn more about trade power in it. It might be worth reading. And is definitely worth trying again if we see the opportunity.

Best,

Greg

The two accounts are separate. In fact, since the BBS runs on self-contained commercial bbs software that knows nothing about the TUG Member database, you must enter a BBS Member Code into your BBS user profile to inform the BBS of your new TUG member status.

Rather than repeat everything here, please see this post on the board regarding the BBS Member Code and BBS Member/Guest status:

Trading power??

IMHO, A high demand 1 bd at most Marriott resorts will trade better than a high demand 2 bd at a "no name" resort in the same area. With a 2 bd and 3 bd Marriott resort trading even better.

BUT a Marriott studio may not have even close to the same trading power.

AND many Marriott deposits will not see available weeks in requested areas because II and Marriott will say that the resort is not up to the quality that Marriott owners want and those weeks will not show up at all even though you have more than enough trading power to get the week.

In summary There isn't a way to really see what is what in II trading

This is a new one on me Bill.
I can perhaps understand the logic, although when looking to visit locations where MVC has no presence, I would consider compromises to stay there so it doe seem a little crazy that we can't see them.

This is definitely true. I have run many searches to compare Marriott weeks to a no - name, not very highly rated, resort.
