On the onemileatatime.com website, I read found the following regarding suite night award selection:

  • It could even make sense to wait until early January 2022 (right before the deadline) to make a selection, because then the benefit will be valid for an entire additional year; for example, if you wait until January 1, 2022, to select suite night awards, they’d be valid through December 31, 2023
However, my suite nights got awarded January of this year and expire at the end of THIS year. I called Marriott and they indicate that they expire in December of the year following the year they were earned. Is this something that has changed or is does the onemileatatime website have incorrect information?

I have a selection to make for this year, and it seems like waiting until January will not effect the expiration date.

Your last sentence is correct. If you do not make a selection the system will default to a SNA.

I am not sure SNA are all that helpful. I have chosen them at many hotels and they have been ignored. When they have been honored, it’s a one category upgrade so unless you buy a more expensive room, all you get is a room in a better location. The most I have ever gotten with a SNA is a junior suite, but I am also Presidential so it’s more likely that is why I even got a Junior suite.

The deadline to select the choice is something like January 6th of the year following when you earn it. If one gets 75 nights though and wants to take advantage of the free night 40K certificate, they will have to select the Platinum benefit first. Why do you have to make your selection for this year now?

I have a number of reservations coming up in September. I do have 5 expiring this year that I earned last year, but I have more than 5 nights reserved for September and wanted to test this to see whether the SNAs have any real value. I think I will hold off on making any other selections, since it appears that these may not have any real value. I have actually made it to Titanium this year, so for that benefit, it may make more sense to select the free night.
